I just started at my job full-time a couple of months ago. I interned here full-time last summer, and worked part-time during my last year of law school. DH and I are planning to start TTC in 6 months or so, but I am worried about taking maternity leave so soon. I work for a very family-oriented company (seven women I work with have given birth since I interned here last summer), so DH thinks it's silly that I am worried. If all goes according to plan, I will have been here full-time a year and a half to two years once I take leave. Did any of you worry about this? How did it turn out?

14 years...which I realize is uncommon. I had just had a company sponsored international move 2 years before, which I was worried about, but it all was fine, no issues.

I will be here almost 5 years when I have my baby. Another lady was here under a year and took leave. She just didn't get full paid during her 8 weeks (had a c-section). I think our policy is you have to be employed for 3 years in order to get full pay during leave.

I'll have been at my job three months shy of two years when I go on maternity leave. My office is very family-supportive, so it wasn't really a concern I had when we were TTC.

I've been at my job at full-time for a lil over 3 years, 3.5 total with the company (was overflow, contingent for a couple of months).
I'll be taking mat leave around end of Nov~

If everything goes according to plan, I'll have been here a little over 5 years, and I'll still be covered when it's bonus time. 5 years is also the cutoff for the highest in terms of leave pay, per my friend (I haven't investigated it yet myself).
I'm a little torn myself, because I'm kind of sick of my job, but we are TTC right now, so it seems a bit dishonest or something to start a new job when I hope to leave in less than 9 months. I'm not planning to go back right away and to be a SAHM for a few years. -

I think your time frame is totally fine, especially since your company is family friendly. -

I didn't worry about it until after I got pregnant...since the pregnancy was not exactly planned.
When I got pregnant I was worried. I had been at my job for 6 months when I found out. I will have been here a year next week, so I am eligible for FMLA.
Work was actually really supportive. I found out that two of my coworkers were pregnant when they got their jobs, and the company held their jobs for them despite not technically being eligible for FMLA.
Life will always happen, whether it's pregnancy, illness, vacation,etc. A good company should understand this, and as long as you are performing well and putting in 100% at work - should be supportive.

I've been with the company almost 6 years, so it's a non-issue for me. If you're within the legal time to be taking maternity leave, oh well! And chances are you don't get knocked up RIGHT away, so you may have a little more wiggle room

I will have with with the company about 4.5 years when I start my mat leave.

I will be here 6 1/2 years, I wasn't too worried about telling them. The only concern I had was I was the 3rd one (in a dept. of 5) in a year to have to leave. My boss just laughed and said "there is something in the water!"

3.5 years. Felt like it was more than enough time before taking leave. My co worker did a 6 week study abroad program and had a job to come back to so they are pretty flexible at my office.

I fully expect that I won't get pregnant right away, which is one of the reasons I don't really want to put it off.

I think you're fine. I will have been here for a month shy of 2 years when I take my leave, and they have been more than accommodating even now with all my doctor's appointments and whatnot.

7 years but you should be fine. Just makes sure you sign up for that short term disability stuff before you start TTC!

My official start date was October 1, 2010 (even though I worked here as a temp for 3 months before that). My maternity leave officially starts October 1st of this year. So 2 years exactly!

I was with my company for 2 1/2 years before taking off for maternity leave. They didn't give me any problem with taking off for four months and my manager even encouraged me to take more time off.

About 2.5 yrs. they were very supportive of my extended leave plans.

6 months! Ha! During the interview process I let them know, they were Ok with it, and I negotiated a full 12-week maternity leave.
Its been a little awkward, but they knew. So it's cool

I was hired around 21 weeks pregnant, so I'll be with them about 12-16 weeks before I take off for maternity leave. My doc has talked about having me work until right after Thanksgiving and then I probably won't go back until the end of January or first of February. The company knew that I was pregnant before they hired me though (Hubs works for them).

I was really worried about this when deciding to TTC. I just started a new job about 3 months ago - but finally, I decided life is life and they hired me after interviewing for 4 months, so I'm pretty sure they will work with me since i am in a specialized field. If I get preg right away, I will have been here just shy of a year. But I can't predict how long it will take, so I don't want to put my life choices on hold for fear of what my employer will think.

@lawbee11: This was exactly me! I left a job I'd been at for 7 years that would've provided 6 months of maternity leave, 4 of which were paid (since I'd accrued that much sick time during my 7 years there) right around when we were starting to TTC. I knew it would make me crazy giving up that benefit, but not knowing how long it would take to get pregnant and given how long I'd been WANTING to leave that job felt like I had no choice.
So I started a new job in Feb 2012. We started TTC in March! I knew it was a bit of a risk because I wouldn't be eligible for FMLA for a year, but frankly, I'm 34 and not putting this on hold for any reason. It ended up taking us 6 months to get pregnant, so when I have the baby in May 2013, I'll have been here for 1 year 4 months. It's not ideal, but my employer knows I just got married and knows my age, so I doubt she'll be super surprised. I have to tell in the next couple of weeks, eeeek. Also signing up for a higher buy-in to short-term disability was a fabulous side effect!

Well when we got our BFP I would have worked for them for over 2.5 yrs. I am PG right now, found out like 2 mos ago not even that my Company lost the contract for the job I am doing for the Military. So IF I get hired on with the new company, I will have been working with them for 2 mos if that. Depends on when our LO is born of course. Not ideal at all. Not going to get the "Full" maternity ben either. Still waiting to hear if I am still going to have a job after Dec 1st. Ugh!

@JoJoGirl: sounds like you made the right decision! We weren't going to start trying until March, but like you I don't really want to put it on hold any longer just in case it takes awhile. So, we are planning to start trying next month...I am so excited! I wish I had been here a little longer, but even if we're successful on cycle 1, I will have been here over a year by the time I take maternity leave so I'll qualify for FMLA.

Three months or so. I told them I was pregnant in the hiring conversation. They hired me at 5 months pregnant, and I started around 6. It's unpaid leave.

@mrsaudi: I really do not know. I guess right around the 12th week. Last time I told them very early on because I was feeling so sick.
It doesnt help that two of the bosses have pregnant wives. One that was here today for me to congratulate and she goes "Im so not ready. Can you imagine having to go through all this again?"ummmm. awkward.

Just shy of three yrs when I announced pregnancy. Just past 3.5 when I take my leave this month.
I dont think u have anything to worry about! My work has been really supportive
I think my new concern is when I go back. Or if I switch depts. They're gong to wonder about baby #2 and timing...
I fully expect that I won't get pregnant right away, which is one of the reasons I don't really want to put it off.
