I think 5. A master bedroom for me and Bee, a room each for Charlie and Olive, and then an office. Plus a guest bedroom for guests.
I'm wary of houses that are too big, because then everyone just holes up in their room and the family drifts apart.

I think 6 would be nice. A Master, a hobby room for my husband, craft/office room for me, guest room, a room for my daughter and one more for whenever we have another baby

6! Master, DS room and two rooms for future LOs, a guest bedroom and an office/craft room. I also don't like houses too big. I wouldn't like anything more than 4000 sq ft. My dream house is 3000 sq ft.

@Andrea: my family lived in a 4 bedroom, 4000 sq foot house, and it was too big. we just stayed in our own areas of the house. when my family was poorer and lived in a small apartment, we interacted so much more. so i never want to live in a house that's too big!

I think 4 would be good. 3 bedrooms + an office/guest room. We wouldn't want too big of a house.

However many kids I have + 1 for a guest room. I have a 4 bedroom house which should be perfect.
@hazelnut: I agree, I dont want anymore than I need now. After buying my first house a few years ago, I've definitely learned bigger is not always better. It cost way too much to heat and cool! And more space just means more to clean!

Our house is the perfect size for us now. 4 bedrooms. The kids each have one and we still have a guest plus finished basement area. It'd be nice to have an office but I end up just carrying my laptop around the house anyway. The more room you have the more junk you acquire I think so I don't like houses too big either.

There is my dream house up the street from me and it has 15 bedrooms. I pick that one! It is the most amazing/craziest house I have ever seen. I love big houses.
And for the record a big house doesn't cause a family to drift apart. My parents have lived in a huge house the past 12 years and our family is the closest family I know and my parents relationship is perfect in my eyes.

@Mrs. Bee: that could be true but it also depends on the set up of the house I think. The kitchen is at the center of my house so everyone naturally drifts towards that room in any house. So I feel like everyone can have their space but easily converge still. However, this wasn't the case in my childhood home and the 3 of us kind of did get lost in it. Like lost in our own worlds, not literally lost!

5 or 6. Master, 3 kids, and a craft room for me. I'm iffy about the guest room.... We don't get a ton of guests since our parents live here so I don't think we really need one.

I'd say 5 or 6. Master, 2 kids rooms, 1 office/craft room, 1 guest room and 1 play room if we had 6. I like the idea of having one room always set up as a guest room so it's less work if you have guests.

I say 5 but could totally live with 4. One for me & DH, one for each of the 2 future LO's and a music room for DH and a guest room.
I'm with you Mr.Bee, my parents have a 6 bedroom main house and a 3 bedroom guest house. There were only 4 of us, and before they built that house we lived in a 2 bedroom house and spent all of our time in the living room together. In the new house we had 4 living rooms, so we were never together except for dinner time

If we stay in the town we're at now i'd like a master and a room for each kid and maybe a guestroom for parents/out of town friends to stay over.
We have 3 bdrms now but i can't see having more than 1 kid in our house the guestroom is where my whole wardrobe is. Our bedroom is bigger but only has 1 closet where the guestroom has 3.

Right now we have 3 bedrooms but only use 1, the guest room gets used not even once a month and DS' room is only for storage and changing diapers. In the future when we have more children I guess 4 bedrooms would be ideal.

Dream life, 5 maybe. Realistically, I'd love 4 bedrooms. We have three now, and as soon as LO#2 comes along we won't have a guest room any more. That makes me a sad panda

I grew up in a 4 bedroom house, and would be more than happy with that, especially if we only have 1 child. At the most we would have 2, so 4 would still work great!

I'm not sure yet as our family is still growing! My parents had 4 kids and a 6 bedroom house, which was great because we all had our own room and there was one spare room. There was a separate office downstairs. We don't want 4 kids, but maybe 3, so I'd love 5 bedrooms.

I would say 5. What is great about our house now is that the basement isn't finished yet so now we have three bedrooms which is perfect (one for us, guest, and for our son) and then if we have another little one we can close off the loft upstairs for #2 where Hubs' office is now and add a bedroom in the basement for his office. So we can make it into a 5 bedroom before it's all said and done.
