I was also going to say shorts. c will let me hand her shorts facing the right way, and will usually allow me to guide her leg into the right leg opening, then she pulls them up to her knees, stands up, and we pull them up to her waist together. She also likes to put her t shirts on herself but she's actually pretty good at those and only needs a tiny bit of guidance for the arms, as long as the shirt is a little big.

Do you have pants or shorts that are looser than leggings? Might be easier for her? When it's really frustrating I try to remind myself that these are important life skills that she needs to learn some time.

Oh and for shoes, c has one pair of maryjanes with an easy "buckle" (Velcro) that she can actually get on herself. The rest she needs help with but she is satisfied if she can get them mostly on and I help with pulling the heel up, as long as I then let her fasten the Velcro strap.

@illumina: ugh. The clipping herself in! I think our girls would get along really well.

For clipping usually I do the first side (so I know she is somewhat secured) and she can do the second side. If she has trouble, sometimes I hope the center clip part and she inserts the other piece into it. So she feels like she is doing it herself but I can help guide it in right.

DS is still letting me help him get dressed at 2 years old, but he did have a super independent phase a few months back where he wanted ZERO help from me and would get upset if I tried.

We just had to step back and let him do his things. It slowed things down a bit, but when he realized he needed a little bit of help, he'd let me indirectly. He's over that phase now, but I understand the frustration. Sorry! Hope it passes soon or that she'll have a better grasp on asking for help more reluctantly.

E does really well with the prompt "hold my shoulder"

@illumina: @Jess1483: I'm pretty sure they have that episode on YouTube, or available via iTunes! DT songs really, really help us. Of course, now LO is 3 and quite sassy, and when I remind her of that song she will tell me that "I'm not frustrated!" when clearly, she totally is. But, it worked REALLY well for a while!!

@Foodnerd81: I hope it works for you! I try to make it fun, like a game, rather than as a "I'm counting to five" type of threat. I just say, "want to see how fast you can do it!? Do you think you can do it before ten? Let's see!" It's been working like magic for about 2 weeks now. Not sure how long it will last, but it's a big help right now!
