I just bought my very first sewing machine and I don't even know how to sew! I bought the Brother XL2610. Anyone have any tips? Good tutorial videos? Any good project ideas for beginners?

Yay! My mom bought me my first one 2 summers ago. There are all kinds of great tips & tutorials online. Missouri Star Quilt Co has great tutorial videos on You Tube. If I think of any others I will let you know! I have made very simple things like burp cloths for my sister's baby & a simple baby quilt for a coworker.

The burp cloths I made were from craftaholicsanonymous.net. She is also on Facebook & frequently posts questions from readers. It helps to find simple stuff to get started.

The easiest thing I can recommend to sew for a first project would be a pillowcase. Silly perhaps but it's useful in learning stitches, trying to make them straight, figuring out fabrics, etc.

@Boopers: Fun! I was SO intimidated by my machine for so long and read the manual over and over.. it just took diving in to get started! I'd search youtube for videos for your specific model/make if you're a visual person. I think a simple envelope style pillowcase cover is a great first project!

Yay thanks ladies! I totally am a visual learner. I found a lot of YouTube videos for my machine so I think I'll start there when the machine arrives.
Anyone have good fabric website recommendations? I know I can go to Joann or Hobby Lobby and use coupons, but I'm sure there are some good deals online too.
