What age did they start? Any tips or insight? My LO is almost one and has never taken to the crib. We are happy cosleepig for now, but I'm thinking about eventually trying a floor bed for her. We will soon have an extra queen mattress, and I think the crib might be a lost cause. TIA!

19 months when she started climbing out of crib! a rough few weeks during the transition, but she loves it now and does pretty good.

Hmm, I want to say 14 or 15 months. She loved her crib just fine, but baby #2 was on the way and I wanted her to be plenty adjusted to her new room/bed. She took to it REALLY well. I think it was easier doing it at that age than waiting another month or two when her resistive/stubborn/attitude came into full gear.
And we put her on a queen mattress too. It's kind of hilarious and adorable seeing such a tiny kid on such a huge bed

My LO has been sleeping in her floor bed for the last week and she is one month today! I have a twin sized mattress on the floor in her nursery. I'll often breastfeed her to sleep as we're lying together on it, but once she's asleep I usually go to my own bed in the next room. Sometimes I sleep next to her all night though. So far she's adjusted just fine. It's nice to be able to do middle of the night feedings without moving her from her bed, so she more easily falls back to sleep.

perfect timing! we attempted to transition to a floor bed about 6 weeks ago. LO is almost 18 mo old now and we are going to try again very soon. i would love tips/experiences with mobility. last time LO started "knocking" on her bedroom door. she does sleep most of the night. fingers crossed!

@NovBaby1112: thanks! I'm glad it's working out. @swurlygurl: right?! I didn't get a queen bed myself until I was married :). @pui: I like the idea of being able to sleep next to her when needed. Since we have been cosleeping, I'm sure it's going to be a big transition.aybe we should have started this from the beginning. @Munchkin: oh no. What happened last time? She just wouldn't stay in bed?

We bed shared from 6ish months (when LO outgrew the rnp) until 12m (when he started kicking DH in the face). We transitioned to the floor bed then and it's been nice. I still nurse my 18mo to sleep so it's allowed us to keep that up.

We tried when he was 4 ish months and it was great until he started crawling and we then went back to the crib. We just transitioned back at 18 months and it has been great!

@ zbug: nope, she wouldn't stay put. But she wasn't STTN then. We are going to do some sleep trainjng/night weanjng before we transition to the floor bed. It is a full size bed. I think we will roll up some blankets and put them around her. About the size of her current sleeping space. I know it won't address the mobility issue but I think last time she had too much space.
@mrs lion: how exciting! How did you go about making the transition? Cold turkey?

@Munchkin: yes! We moved him to his new room and put nothing in it except the bed, an empty bookshelf, and the rug. There wasnt much to entice him out of bed. The first few days he fell asleep in random places and we moved him to the bed once he was asleep, but then after about 3 days he started falling asleep in the bed. We are working on filling the room up now that he has been doing well for a couple weeks. It didn't affect his sleep at all, except the first couple days it took him a little longer to go to sleep (like 30 minutes instead of 5-15). Now that he has a reading spot (rug and some pillows) he falls asleep there for his naps and i just leave him. He seems to like it there haha.

@ mts lion: that sounds magical! Does your LO STTN? Does that "matter" you think?
PS if anyone wants to advise/calm my nerves regarding night weaning I'd love your thoughts, particularly since I have it in my head that doesn't "go along with (logistically" the floor bed

@Munchkin: depends on your definition haha
he is an early riser and we are also transitioning to one nap, so while he does sleep through most nights, the last 3 he has been up at 4am ready for the day (ugh!) It is dark in his room so he doesn't get anything out, but he did bang on the door this am until i came to check on him. I try not to go in until he actually needs me...when he is just chatting to himself i leave him. But he did this in his crib too, so i don't think it has anything to do with the bed. I personally do think that sttn helps, but depending on the kid it may not matter. I do think kiddos need to feel secure enough in their space that they can fall asleep on their own before you try it, unless you want to set the precedent of staying until lo goes to sleep or cosleep, (which was not an option for us).

@Zbug: we switched at 14-15 months. He always hated the crib and I was having to get IN the crib to soothe him. So we put the crib mattress on the floor and, at 2 years old now, it's been amazing. We do sit next to him until he falls asleep (maybe 5 min) because I had been nursing him before bed for a long time. He does wake up at 1am or so and just walks into our room to sleep with us til morning (but that has always been our routine and nothing to do with the floor bed). We did do like @Mrs. Lion: and made his room "uninteresting" for playing in the night.

update: we battled thru a rough STTN re-training. got a good number of consistent nights. and then transitioned to the floor bed. first night (yesterday) went great! i was so proud. LO slept until 3am. DH was able to get her to sleep again for a short while. then she was up. (hence the continued re-training). interesting what trying again after two months makes. fingers crossed the success continues!
