Yay for moving home! At first I wanted to move away from home. After college I moved back in with my parents because I needed money and a job, and my goal was to move away. But then I met DH and his family is here too and he didn't want to leave them, so we stayed. Thank goodness! I don't know how I'd survive without them so close. And, the good thing is that we live close enough for them to come if we need them, but far enough away that they can't just pop in without a phone call first.

I'd love to move back home too, but the thought of being close to my family again freaks me out too!!
I'm sure it'll be great for you though. Having family support is the best!

Ummm... it's going to be awesome because you're moving close to me!!! So stop worrying!! : )

Seriously though while I'm sure there will be an adjustment period while you all figure out what boundaries work for you guys after the first few months I think you'll really love being close to your family again.

I just moved back "home home" after 10 years! I lived in two other cities during that time and for 8 years of it, was on the other side of the country. i left as a college grad and am now back as a mother of two. needless to say, it's a huge change for me/my family and I have been very weary of the move, but deep in my heart I know it is the best decision for our family at this time. it's not easy at times, but i keep reminding myself that healthy boundaries are a must and need to be kept in check, otherwise things get complicated! so far, so good... Once you move, just keep thinking of the pro's of your move rather than all the cons/potential cons, and it helps. good luck!

@daniellemybelle: Half hour would be too far for me! But I need my mom for emergency migraines. She's 15 minutes and if I have LO and I have a really bad migraine, 15 minutes seems like hours.

We talk about it from time to time, there aren't a ton of jobs in my husband's field in our home town and it is a very narrow minded place, we have realized we have very little in common with the friends of ours that are still there.

I think the best I could agree to would be one of the major cities within two hours of our parents. It would be close enough that we would see our families about once a month or so but it would be a huge improvement over the 2-3 times a year we manage now.

We live outside a "big city" now but life is very affordable, if we were to buy an equivalent house near one of the cities closer to our parents it would cost us 3-4x what our house cost us (which is simply not in the cards for us.)
