DS is 18mo and has been in our bed since day one, with that in mind I swear he's the size of a 3 yo, and I am done done done co-sleeping. He has a crib and it's been sitting in pieces in his closet. I took it out today and put it together in my room. I'm not ready for him to leave my room, just my bed. Help me!! What should I expect tonight?
Our normal night time routine consist of taking a bath, then a before bed bottle. I know, I know he's to old for that, but this is the last one he has (weened all other bottles)and my child literally starts heading towards the kitchen and screaming at me untill he gets it. This battle is not currently at the top of my list. Ok so after his bottle me, DH, and DS usually just chill on the couch untill he starts to get tired then we head to bed(8-9). He'll play in bed for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes then pass out. We all just go to bed at the same time because DH gets up at 4 for work, and I need as much sleep as my kid 
I'm sure he's going to look at me crazy when I put him in his crib tonight, and I'm not sure how I should handle it. Coddle him? Ignore him? If you've read this far bless you! I'm really hoping for the most pain free transition, for both of us

Good luck! My advice would be to consider skipping the crib and trying a floor bed. At that age, you might be more successful since your LO isnt used to a crib. Thats what we did with good success! We did the usual routine (for us at that point was nursing to sleep) and then I snuck away.

I'm slowly evicting my 16.5 month old. He falls asleep and I transfer him. When he wakes up, I comfort him back to sleep and transfer him. Then I give up and he ends up in bed with me. But, we've gone from 40 minutes in the crib to 5 hours, which is huge!

@mrsbubbletea: I thought about that, but he literally just learned to walk 2 weeks ago, and I'm terrified of him rummaging around the bedroom and me still being out of it lol.
@Pollywog: that is awesome! Maybe that's what I need to do then let him fall asleep in the bed and then move him? -
I would put him in his crib after all the usual bedtime cues. If he cried I would reassure him but leave him there. My POV is kids are allowed to be upset about things, but they aren't allowed to pick the boundary, and moving him after he's asleep might be confusing. However I can see the appeal and I just want to wish you good luck no matter what you choose!

I think you have to try a few things and see what sticks. The sleeping transfer might work, it might not, you don't know until you try it. I think, though, you need a plan, like what you will do if the sleeping transfer doesn't work. Do you just bring him back to bed, or are you now going to try controlled crying, or do you have to move him to another room?
That's where I failed in my sleeping attempts with my son, not having a series of things to try when the first one failed. As a result, my son and I coslept for close to 4 years!

@looch: my husband is off all weekend so, my plan was to let him cry it out. He kept me up for 3 hours last night kicking me repeatedly in my back. I probably have bruises. I'm literally at the "I can't take anymore stage" lol
ETA: I sleep between him and my husband and I'm reallyyyyy starting to feel smothered.

Where does he nap? In your bed alone? I'm not an expert by any means, but I can't imagine my son would ever fall asleep in a crib with me in the room. Can you start with him napping in the crib in his own room? Just a thought - good luck!

Can you side car the crib to your bed for now so he still has access to your bed, but you can lay next to the crib to confine him there?

@arosebyany: I let my lo1 CIO when dh was away for four nights. It really did result in everyone sleeping better and being in better moods during the day. I would say I love you, it's time to sleep in your crib now, goodnight! ETA, she had previously slept in a crib but was insisting on coming in the pnp in our room.

I think moving him to his own room would work better - I think he would just be upset and scream if he saw you in the room but couldn't go into the bed. And once the screaming is literally in your face you're more likely to just pull him into the bed. I'd move him into his own room, put a bunch of stuffed animals in the crib so he doesn't feel alone, and maybe lay on the floor next to him initially and leave once he's asleep.

@arosebyany: Good luck mama! We moved our son out of our room to his room at 15 months (so not the same, but similar) and I will tell you this. The time I spent dreading it and worrying was 100 times any issue we actually had. Kids get used to new stuff fast!

@gingerbebe: I know I should probably put him in his own room, but I'm just not ready. If the crib in our room becomes to stressful I would just put him back in bed with me. I don't know why this is such a problem for me. -

than you twin mama!Okay so sorry it's taken me so long to hop on here today, crazy around here! Last night he did great! Once he started to get tired after our usual routine, I turned on his white noise and night light and put him in his crib. I talked to him And let him know it was bedtime, then walked out of the room but left the door open. He would fuss a little and when he would get loud I would go back in and reassure him again and then leave again. This went on for about twenty minutes, then he passed out and slept the whole night!
we'll see how tonight goes, but honestly I think he is just as ready for his own space as we are. I woke up a lot though last night to check on him, and several times thought about picking him up and putting him in the bed, but I held strong! Hopefully it doesn't take to long for me to see it as a new normal. Thank you all so much for your suggestions and reassurances! You ladies are the sweetest
