I don't think expressing love is bad, with kids and parents. I gave a lot of hugs as a kid!

Absolutely not!!! Love and affection is abundant in our home, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I will say, our 3 year old is going through a phase where she says she doesn't always feel like hugs/kisses, so we're totally respecting that right now.

My parents and grandparents still kiss me on the lips. Weird for some, I guess, but it's what I grew up with, so it's not weird at all.

Honestly, I get sad when I hear that parents are weirded out by kissing on the lips. Like, that's really, really sad to me.

*I will say, my personal boundary falls within the social norms of our country - hugs and kisses are aplenty!! And, I will take hugs and kisses from my little ones as long as they'll have me.

I could do without the French kisses, but he's only 12 months. I'm assuming he'll outgrow it soon.

My kid is only 5 months old and I can't stop myself from making out with him for hours a day, lol, but 5 and 7 definitely sounds like a very normal age for tons of hugs! At that age, I vividly remember my dad coming home from work and sweeping me up into the biggest hugs and kisses every night. I think once they start hitting puberty maybe it becomes a little much?

Never too lovey dovey for some awesome snuggles! But I understand what you mean about being aware of the differences in local customs and culture. I'm really affectionate with DD and I used to be self-conscious during drop-offs because the locals don't appear to be as affectionate. DD would want to rub noses (like in Daniel Tiger) but everyone would look at us weird - they don't have Daniel Tiger here. Just as she's grown out of the nose rubbing, I see a couple of other moms kiss their LOs on the lips goodbye. They look as hesitant and embarrassed as I used to with the nose rubs. It goes to show that affection is universal

I am coming at it from the other side of things and i am going to say yes...not because it's a bad thing that they show affection, but because at least for my son, it's turned into some inappropriate behavior in terms of not understanding people's boundaries.

My son will literally sit right next to you, put his hands and feet all over you, he will hug and kiss you, stroke your hair, etc. He loves to cuddle at night, he will literally hug you all night if he could, so we are trying to find other ways for him to get that sensory satisfaction.

I was raised in a home where we never showed affection. My parents never really hugged or kissed us. I'm sure they did when we were babies? But even now it feels kind of weird to hug them and I never ever hug my siblings!!! That being said, my kids are all over me and each other and j love it!!! If I walk into a room they come and hug me and kiss me and it just feels so natural. So maybe we're creepy lol, but I don't want them to miss out on that physical attention from parents. If that makes sense? I don't want it to be weird or forced if we hug when we're older. It's like second nature.

The only reason I often avoid mouth kisses is germs. And no, I don't think kids can be too affectionate. Of course they need to learn boundaries with people especially non-family, but showing love should be a given in our house.
