My parents live 6-ish hours away, and I would like them to meet Baby Grizz as soon as he's born, or as soon as they can get here, whichever comes first. I want my ILs to meet Baby Grizz on his birthday too - mostly only because I feel like its the right thing to do though. Is it wrong to call my parents and tell them when I'm in labor since they have such a long travel, but not call the ILs? I plan on waiting to call them until he's born. They live so close it'll be easy for them to hop over. I just know if I call them while I'm in labor they'll freak out and hover over us or hover in the waiting room and call/text incessantly. Hell, his mom freaked out and hovered over me when I was in the ER with a kidney stone... not even a baby! Just part of me wonders if I'm being a little unfair.

Not at all! In the same situation I would do exactly the same. Not suggesting you are doing this, but with a lot of friends I know who've given birth it's common for the mother's parents to be more involved in those early days/weeks than the fathers. I'm sure I'll want to be this way and hopefully it will be accepted.

I think my main concern would be if it bothered DH...If he's ok then I say go for it! I have a tendency to include my parents more when it comes to LO and I have to check myself sometimes bc I know that it's important to him that his parents are involved w/LO too;). But with that being said, my ILs drive me batsh*t crazy, so I walk a fine line, lol

We were planning on not telling anyone other than my mom that I was in labor. It ended up that I was induced 2 weeks early. We couln't really disappear for 3 days so we told our families that we were going in, it would be a long process and that we would keep them updated.
LO was born at 11:18pm (3 days later) so our families were both able to meet him the next morning.

As long as your DH is ok with it, then I would do it.

I'm a big believer that being/becoming a parent isn't about what's fair to your parents. It's about what's best for you and your baby. Do what feels right and if anyone has a problem with it they can get over it.

Meh, life's not fair, but they all get to meet baby on his birthday & that's pretty great. If DH is onboard, they can get over it. Do what you guys are comfortable with, maybe ask your parents to be understanding & not say anything about being called first to ILs. You could even say your parents were driving down to be close when LO arrived & they just happen to have great timing.

@grizz: we did exactly that, since my mom had to fly in. We expected her to arrive after baby, but I was in labor 18 hours so she got there a few hours before my emergency c-section.
Since I was too sick for visitors, the in laws met the baby on day 2. -
No. You don't want them there hovering if it's going to bother you during labor.

Not at all. We called my parents when we were absolutely certain I was in labor so they would have time to get to the hospital. I think if his parents were closer, we would have done the same thing you're planning on doing!! Just tell your parents not to tell anyone that you're in labor so they don't accidentally let the cat out of the bag to his parents!!
