I might bite the bullet and don't know much about them.
Which one should I get?

I think iphone is the easiest/most user friendly. With the 6 coming out, the 5s will be cheap.
Eta: my husband and i are tech geeks and always have the newest phones we can get with our upgrade so i wouldnt be considered "laid back" about phone choices. Im practically salivating for the 6.

I didn't have one till LO was born. I never saw the point especially coupled with the cost. But when LO was born and my husband got me one I found it super useful to take pictures and videos of LO. I got an iphone since I had an early ipod touch that someone handed down to me so it was easy to pick it up and use.

I just got my 1st one about 18 months ago and got the iPhone- I love it- it's only the 4 but works great for me!

The 5s is near the top of my list, I'm a little worried that the iphones all seem to break really easily. But I like that it's not huge.
What do you use it for day to day. I'm so used to not using one.

I wish I never bought one. (Ok that's not really true!) But once you get a smartphone you can't go back and they are so expensive. I wish I could quit you, smartphone.
I'm an Android fan. I like HTC phones.

I love my iphone 4S. I am super eligible for an upgrade and I will likely be getting the iphone 6, however I maybe won over with the new galaxy phone. ( It has a kids only option and I have a toddler who loves my phone.)
nectarine / 2272 posts
@Maysprout: i use it for absolutely everything. Camera (there's no need for a point and shoot when you have a good smartphone) email, social networking, organization, calendars, gps, netflix, youtube, calorie counting, workout tracking...
...you'd be better asking me what i dont use my iphone for

@mrsjazz: what do you like abotu them, i don't really know anything about them
@MrsRcCar: I was very much leaning towards a galaxy but it's HUGE, I'm not sure where I'd put it when I'm running, it feels so wide to put on your arm.

@Maysprout: I think you are expecting soon?
There are times when the baby is sleeping and only sleeps while you are holding it and will wake up if you stop. Having never had a smart phone, I was able to watch tv (using my iphone as a romote) and being the person I am... when I watch tv I think where have I seen that person before!? And I can look it up with the magic box in my hand. I also started playing games with it. OMG I do not suggest that.. they get addicting. Also texting friends... addicting.
I have a 5s and I haven't had problems with it being fragile. I do have a life proof case on it now.
My original iphone was a 4 and LO threw it on concrete when he was having a fit and we were trying to clam him down with music. It cracked the screen and I able to replace it because it was over 2 years with the 5s and I gave my 4 to my brother who got the crack screen repaired and is using it now.

@Raindrop: I'll have to get a case. I drop my phone all the time, which is one of the reasons I'm scared of a smartphone - though they seem very convenient. And I need to change my status, I'm not pregnant, my LO is teething so she's sleeping in my arms right now and I'm trying to figure out how to put her down to clean the dishes but she's sleeping so lightly because of her poor tooth.but I have a laptop on my lap since i don't have a smartphone

@mrsjazz: My husband would give you a high five. He's using an HTC and freaking loves it.

@looch: DH has an HTC One. He loves it. I can't figure it out.

@mrsjazz: it's true. when i got a blackberry my then BF (now DH) said "you've changed since you got your BB." i played games, read emails, texted more, etc. once i got my iphone.... yeah. game over. and i was a LATE iphone adopter! my 4s that i've had for 3 years is the first one i've had.... i'm DYING for the 6!!!!
ETA: OP, go for the iphone!

@maysprout: I've never had a smart phone, either! Don't get one, stay strong! Just kidding. I opened this thread thinking it would be about how cool non-smart phone users are. Now that that's out of the way, I obviously have no advice, but there are so many smart phones out there, it must be a bit overwhelming to decide which one to get. Good luck in your search!

@looch: @hotchildinthecity: I have an HTC One S. Prior to this I had the HTC Google phone. My husband recently got an iPhone after being Android with me and the only thing I like better on his phone is his camera.

@Maysprout: Ah you have your baby! Sorry I just looked at your main profile and didn't look at your recent threads. Yes I was where you are hold sleeping baby with one arm and using iphone with free hand. You will get very good at this... you will even able to use your smartphone with your non-dominate hand after a while too. Yup. Haha. Good luck!

@Katrocap: We're definitely cooler! I keep waffling, I love our low tech ways. But . . . . it seems more convenient in a lot of ways too, haha.
nectarine / 2272 posts
@Maysprout: I feel like not only is it convenient in general, but it consolidates many different devices into one -- camera, gps, laptop, ipod/mp3 player, etc.

@Maysprout: Haven't read the whole thread, but did see your comment about iPhones breaking easily... I found this to be the case with 3rd generation iPhones but my iPhone 4S just. won't. quit. I've dropped it countless times (no case), threw it in my dog's water dish and even ran it through a full cycle in the washing machine. Amazing what overnight in a bowl of rice can do!
Regardless of what you get, enjoy! They are fun and you will love it!

@mrsjazz: I agree about wishing I never got one... (But not really.) So addictive! Although I'm an Apple girl.

@hotchildinthecity: ME TOO!!! I still have my 5 that I got the day it came out. I already told my supervisor that I will probably be "sick" the day it comes out.

Haha, i just got my first one in April! We went Galaxy and im way too attached to it. No iPhones for me. I don't like Apple as a company anymore after working selling their products.
grapefruit / 4800 posts
@loveisstrange: is it too big? do you just have a pocket in your purse for it or how do you carry it. I don't always carry a purse, so the size of it is the biggest drawback for me but maybe I'm just not thinking about it right.
pineapple / 12526 posts
@Maysprout: I thought it felt HUGE at first but Ive really gotten used to it quickly. Ive carried in my purse and in my pocket. I have a regular Galaxy, not the Note. That sucker is basically a tablet.

I wasn't going to post cause I'm a smart phone newb but I have the Nokia something and I've dropped it dropping 50 times and it's still going strong. So if you're as clumsy as I am, it shouldn't break. But it's a windows phone so limited apps

@hotchildinthecity: Oh, I'm pre-ordering I just won't be able to wait until after work to get it!!! I wanna pick it up as soon as the store opens!
persimmon / 1230 posts
@maysprout: I hear ya! DH and I got free flip phones last year when we switched to AT&T. They are unbelievably cheap. DH is convinced they are of such low quality because phone companies are trying to force consumers to get smart phones.

@Maysprout: I've had iPhones for about seven years and I love them! My H is an Android guy and I find iPhones more intuitive (though to be fair it's all I know in terms of smartphones, haha). I've never broken one either, and I drop mine a lot/my cat likes to throw it on the floor for no reason. The case definitely helps with that, I'm sure. The biggest thing I like better about my phone than my H's is the camera (even he agrees the iPhone camera is way better). So if you plan on taking lots of pictures, I think that should definitely be a consideration!

@Katrocap: yes, I feel a lot like I'm being lured in by a drug dealer that just wants to get you hooked.

Another Samsung galaxy vote, I adore my galaxy! Get an otterbox case (for Samsung or Iphone), not the best ones, they are bulky, but I think its the commuter?? Its thin and keeps any scratches or breaks away when I drop my phone on cement or tile. As for the size, it fits everywhere fine and the screen size is nice for reading small text on places like hellobee or watching videos. I don't find it cumbersome at all and when I compare to my friends iphones I hardly notice a difference.

I've had mine for about a year. I still feel like a newbie! I don't know if I could go back.
I love my Samsung Galaxy!

@Dandelion: @ninjaduck: @Happygal: Do you ever go on runs or workout with the galaxy? How does that work?
watermelon / 14206 posts
@Maysprout: nope, not a runner. But, I've dropped it many, many times and I don't have one crack on it and it still works great. I've had mine for almost a year.

My 1st smartphone was the iphone and I still have an iphone since I'm too lazy to switch to another platform! You'll love having a smartphone, whatever it is! It will just take over your life, muahahah

@Maysprout: I'm 9 months pregnant so I haven't done much lately (had some hip problems) and had to remember back when I did. I would run with my dogs and I have a dog pouch I looped around my waist to carry some treats/bags etc just in case. I stuck my phone in there and wired headphones up through my shirt (I hate when they get in the way). The pouch is pretty small, but I never had a problem with it.
I've never used anything that hooks your phone to your arm or anything, but I would think they make something like that?
