I would keep the 2 year old home if you have the option. It looks like coxsackie’s incubation period is 3-5 days so I would assume by Monday the kids who are going to have it (including your son) will have already gotten it. If it wasn’t Friday tomorrow I’d probably feel differently.

As for your daughter, I’d try not to borrow worry. I’d probably encourage your toddler not to be as touchy feely until Monday, but otherwise just cross your fingers.

I'm guessing you've already decided whether you're keeping him home or not. Just as a heads up that I got from my ped when my ~8 month old got HFM despite not being in daycare and my 3.5 year old not getting it - coxsackie is surface stable meaning it can be transmitted more easily through shoes, etc. So my 3.5 year old likely brought it home from preschool on his shoes, and my teething/mobile 8 month old got it because she was at that perfect stage putting her mouth/body on everything and hadn't developed the immunity to it yet. Our ped said her kid got it at that age because she legit LICKED one of her shoes that she had worn while, ya know, treating kids with HFM all day.

I wouldn't freak out bc it's much easier to keep a newborn separated, but just be careful about things like shoes, backpacks, etc. And probably give hard surfaces/shoes a good wipe down/lysoling, extra hand washing, that kind of thing.

@LCTBQE: My daily commute consists of preventing LO from licking anything on the subway, or putting his hands in his mouth after he's touched something, so gross His great joy is standing up in my lap and grabbing hold of the pole just like he sees everyone else do - if only he had a cell phone to play with while doing it (which is not happening), he'd be in nirvana - so preventing touching anything is a losing battle...
