Can lighter carpets survive in your home?
I'm asking because we are on the hunt for a new living room rug, but after our last one we realized we need something darker that doesn't show too much. It wasn't even super light, but did have some white parts and now those parts look really gross.
If a lighter rug/carpet can survive in your home, what's your trick to keeping it clean?

@regberadaisy: I see people with light area rugs and I so want to be them because they are so pretty, but it's impossible with my bunch.

All of our carpets are light tan. Despite a kid and a dog, I think they look fine! We occasionally (like once a year) run a carpet cleaner over them but other than that, just vacuuming.

Yes we have a cream carpet from ikea (low pile) and it has withstood vomit, food spills and crayon markings. I'm amazed that it is in great condition.
I think texture and patterns will help hide stains. I really wanted a nicer rug but may wait until our kids are a little older.

Haha we have light carpet in the bedrooms and cream rugs in the playroom, family room and dh's office.
The kids only eat/drink in the kitchen area so keeping everything clean hasn't been a problem. We also don't wear shoes in the house!

We have light tan carpet in our basement and DS's room... We don't really wear shoes in the house and never wear them on the carpet and it's held up nicely. We also don't let the kids have messy snacks/drinks in the basement either.

Well you know I posted on your other thread!
I love a huge white shaggy rug in the living room. I have one 20lb shedding dog, and a toddler. That rug is def not white anymore, but it's not yuck either. It actually used to get dirtier since only part of it was covered by an ottoman. Now we moved the ottoman and have her playmat down, so most of it is covered.
I got the rug from overstock, so it wasn't super expensive. I always knew that I'd probably replace it every 5-6 yrs or something. So far we're going on 3 yrs and I think it's still fine!
