What little things do you feel like just leak money.
For me it's pouches. I always try to buy them on sale, but they are still expensive for what they are! But still, they are so convenient and I can always get some grits and veggies into both kids, no matter where we are at meal time. And if I give one to one kid the other MUST have one too.
But lately I feel like they are a quarter of our grocery bill.

It kills me when DS doesn't finish his pouch!!!!
For us it's eating out. DH looooves to eat out. Most weeks I'm prettt good about forcing him to eat in on week days but weekends it's a free for all. It's so bad.

Yogurt. My husband is really fussy about it and will only eat one brand that costs $5.99 for a 500ml tub, and he likes a mix of plain and vanilla so we go through like $20 of yogurt a week.

Eating out, we both buy lunch far too often and eat out a few times a week for dinner. It's terrible!

@ocean81: the strawberries always kill me- I know they top the dirty dozen list and all, but to pay so much more for organic and then they go bad so fast? Grr.
@Portboston: it is such a hassle to go out to eat these days that it's not even tempting. My kids are not at a good age for that and we are too cheap for babysitters. So that's a silver lining. Pouches are cheaper than going out to eat!

@erinbaderin: im not fussy about brand but I do really like to mix vanilla and plain! Vanilla is too sweet but plain is too...plain.

Grocery and eating out....! When it comes to eating I can not resist.DH is adamant about shopping at whole foods, so everything is twice as expensive. I wish we could shop at the farmer's market (everything is dirt cheap with a variety of choices!) but DH opposes it.
Not to mention I have a serious addiction to grapes, persimmons, and cherries (summer), I'd buy 3 big bags of grapes on the weekend and gobbled them up all mid-week. lol. Other women bleeds money buying brand name bags while I bleed my money buying grapes lol

Hunting season. Probably all boy hobbies. It seems there's always a few little things that he NEEDS, etc,etc.
Fruit also drives me crazy. The people always say they want pears and grapes, etc. And then they don't eat them and they go bad

@Foodnerd81: Once in a while I'll buy pouches on Amazon. The overall cost is less if you buy enough of them. Some of them aren't any cheaper but some are!

Eating out. We were SO SO bad the past few years. It's terrible. Just the past couple of weeks it's come to a grinding halt. I am struggling and I feel like now all I do is think about what we're going to eat since I/we have to make everything. But we were wasting SO much money. Thousands of dollars over the years down the drain.

Rewarding out is probably the biggest one. We don't buy organic. Pouches are also expensive so I try to stock up when on sale.

I normally grocery shop alone or with DD but lately DH has been wanting to go as a family. Our bill is $25 more at minimum if DH is there. It's unnecessary junk that he sees and acts like he can't live without. I hate it. So much easier to do the food shopping without him.

Groceries and eating out. With a toddler, we're always buying tons of fruit, stuff for snacks, things to make for daycare lunch vs meals at home, etc. And as for eating out, we def get take out waaay too often...

Having Amazon Prime..and the stuff that comes because of it. We find something we don't even need because we can have it in 2 days without leaving the house.

@madisonbee: on the flip side, think of how much you spend just walking in the door someplace like target! I feel like I make fewer impulse buys on Amazon than in a physical store, and usually can price comparison shop more.
That's my same justification for grocery delivery. I price compare much better and can shop sales better, which I think makes up for the extra cost of tipping the delivery guy (I almost always have a code for free delivery).

@Foodnerd81: Very true! I usually just put one thing in my cart in Amazon when I purchase. But what if it's one thing....every day of the week? Then it feels like being at Target! Eek!

@catgirl: this is how my DH is. Thankfully, he never wants to go to the store (quite frankly, neither do I) and it is so much cheaper when he doesn't. That being said, we spend more on food every month than we do on our house. And we RARELY go out. I can't get it under control.

@catgirl: Same reason why DH isn't allowed to grocery shop with me. It's my therapy and he just stresses me out sometimes. He looks at things too long, decides not to buy it, looks at something for 2 seconds, decides to buy it. It's worse at Costco. Came in for groceries, left with a heater.

For the longest time I used a GC to buy LO's BeechNut, once the GC was finished DH started asking how much each jar was. Baby food is expensive, but necessary.
The biggest personal leech is Starbucks. As a household it's a combo of grocery perishable waste and eat out.

Organic grapes (DS's fave); eating out; grabbing a mid-morning "coffee" that turns into snacks for both of us.
Re: pouches- I make my own once every 2 weeks- homemade apple/spinach puree in the "little green pouches" they sell on amazon- they are dishwasher/freezer safe and reusable. Then I freeze half of them. Time consuming but money saving!

@lioneyes: Yes! We started doing reusable pouches too. So I do a mix of store bought and home made. Sometimes the home made ones are just applesauce or yogurt.

@Foodnerd81: my kids started wanting them at home so that's when I turned to the reusable ones. I literally just dump applesauce or yogurt into them so it's not a huge prep (no baking/purred etc). Then I use my store bought ones for when we are on the go.

Amazon Prime in general and being subscribed to a bunch of "deal" blogs etc and being a sucker for "deals."
I also have a tendency to buy "little" things that make life easier or more pleasant and it all adds up. Like new lip balm, eye masks, cute socks, etc. Like, functional, but I seriously have maybe 15 lip balms?

@Foodnerd81: back to the yogurt- I buy only plain yogurt to limit my sugar intake, but I use a stevia packet to sweeten and if I want vanilla, I'll add a few drops of vanilla extract! Much cheaper and healthier
For me it's probably food related- having cravings and giving into them, even if I planned out meals... wanting coffee while I'm out and about, etc. it adds up so quickly!

Clearance clothes. And that's why I don't go shopping in person unless I have to. DS has the next year's worth of clothes (and some extra probably) that I buy when it is on clearance and I have a coupon/deal.
And can I just say any Target trip?

Formula!! OMG ...LO #1 was EBF so to have an infant LO#2 who is FF and BF I never realized how much formula you use and how expensive it is!!! It is $17 a can that lasts days so 2-3 a week $50 a week x 4 $200 a month....CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DH isn't one to pack a lunch or carry water with him. I set up the coffee maker to brew my coffee by the time I wake up the morning, so he doesn't feel like he can use it (even though he could use it, then set it up for me!)
So he'll spend a dollar at 7-11 for coffee, and pick up a granola bar or whatever else he needs to snack on for the day. Then he travels to a lot of convenience stores and drugs stores for work so he'll end up picking up sodas and bottles of water along the way.
It would be so much cheaper if he brewed his coffee at home and/or had snacks and water in his car (bought in bulk) to get him through the day

Milk - I feel like full cups of milk get left out all the time. So wasteful and it drives me crazy!
DH is careless with things in general too. Like I will cook dinner and just ask that he puts the leftovers away and he says he did but leaves half of it out. Or sometimes he will throw away coupons that I was going to use. We tend to have an issue with him throwing out things and needing to go buy them again too.

@skipra: dh does that too with leftovers, drives me nuts. Buuuut the other day I got distracted when I got home from Costco and left an entire gigantic bag of frozen tortellini and a bag of frozen vegetables out next to the fridge overnight. Had the throw like 15 lbs of food out.

@Foodnerd81: I agree, actually. Or I used to make my own honey yogurt by adding some honey and cinnamon to plain. The mixing wouldn't be a problem if he didn't eat such a big bowl every morning, plus a small bowl for B, who never actually eats it.

Pouches are a rip off. We buy jars, they last 3days vs. 24 hours.
Sales. I feel brainwashed and end up getting something, for example, in a color I didn't want. I prefer to buy less and exactly what I love, if possible.

@Greentea: we don't do much in the way of purées at this point, except when we are out and about. And you cannot deny the convenience of handing them a pouch they can hold and feed themselves, vs spoon feeding from a jar. But I agree, I definitely try not to feed pouches at home. I get pest and prune purees for the baby that I do spoon feed when she is constipated.
