hi guys! I'm in a bit of a panic. I keep feeling tiny gushes and then having to pee really bad. then I started to lose what I think is my mucus plug. I called my midwife friend and told me not to freak out. I swear I'm in the beginning of labor but my midwife friend said this could happen weeks before. also, I've had Braxton hicks all day. I kinda pushed myself at work today and didn't sit down all day as well. has anyone else had something similar happen and everything was ok? I am so not ready for this baby to be here yet!!! plus I'm only 37 weeks

@paigeface: I felt tiny gushes a day after having my membranes swept and it was my water breaking! I would go to OB triage and have them check for amniotic fluid. If your water did break it is not sterile in there for LO anymore so you need to be monitored. Good luck!

I think it's worth going to get checked if you're feeling gushing. It could be a slow leak.

I would drink some water and take a bath. If they're bh contractions they should ease up when you do those things. If they're real they won't change. If you're really concerned, by all means get checked, but even if it's real labor it could be days of this. Good luck!!

The fact that you are gushing makes me think it could be your water leaking. I would get checked out but I am a worrier.

Don't worry that you're only 37 weeks. That's technically a term baby. But yes if you are feeling gushes you need to go to OB triage and get checked out. And I wouldn't recommend a bath, that can introduce an infection if your water is actually broken.

I agree with PPs, go get checked out! If it was just the mucous plug, it wouldn't be that big a deal because it regenerates, but the fluid would concern me. My water broke at 37+3 and I had DD early the next morning, so I totally understand not being ready, but from my experience I'd say if you think you're in labor, you shouldn't ignore it!

My babies aren't here yet but yeah, I agree with others that you should get checked out. To make sure your baby is doing well.
37 is term. I know you might not be mentally ready but you'll have time to finish things when the baby is here. (This is coming from someone's whose water broke (my OB and I thought it was just vaginal discharge) at 28 weeks and I've been on hospital bed rest for the past 5 weeks and I will be delivering my twins next week at 34 weeks. Definitely caught me by surprise and I definitely panicked thinking that we had nothing done.)
Anyway, I'm hoping you get checked out and they say its nothing and send you home.

@Truth Bombs: there are different schools of thought on that. @paigeface: I tend towards "wait and see" if baby is term, but given your state of mind, I'd call your midwife or ob. They know your situation better than anyone and can help you decide whether it's worth going in now or waiting.

@mrsrain: given that there is no actual health benefit to taking a bath I would say it is not worth the possible risk of introducing an infection regardless of school of thought.

I would get checked. I lost my mucus plug at 37 weeks and bam went into labor that day. The fact that you are leaking seems like another very real sign.

I had my LO right on 37 weeks (completely unexpected - we had just seen our OB days before who said he was expecting 40/41w!) and my plug had started coming out the afternoon of 36+6. Steadily started getting more and more painful cramps which turned into contraction around 10pm that night. Plug continued to come out. Midwives over the phone weren't concerned as they said could still be days or weeks away. Once I started seeing blood they had me come in around 5.30am after labouring all night. Baby born 5 hours later.
But my water didn't break until I was in hospital though. So was ok at home until then. -
Well ladies, it's the real deal. it was my water breaking! I'm at the hospital now and he should be here by tomorrow. I am however pretty upset I'm 37 weeks exactly and scared he isn't fully developed. anyone else have babies this time and they were just fine? docs here say it's term and that he should not be in NICU at all!

@paigeface: I was a couple days past 37 weeks but my DD was fine! No NICU. She was just a little jaundiced and very sleepy for the first week or two. Also, I had trouble getting her positioned right for BFing and the LC said that she often sees that with 37-weekers -- they like to keep curled up really tightly and can have some trouble latching because their mouths are so small. But once I figured out the best way to position her and she grew a bit, it was pretty smooth sailing. So far, there have been no issues related to her being on the early side (knock on wood) and she's almost 21 months old now.

@paigeface: I am sure everything will be great. A close friend of mine delivered at 36 weeks and her baby needed 0 time in the NICU and was totally perfect!

@paigeface: my LO came at 37w exactly & was totally fine & healthy weight, needed no time in special care. He was very sleepy though & BFing was tricky as had to wake to feed him...but that settled early on. Good luck - exciting times for you!
ETA: my son caught up on growth in the first few weeks/months & now at 19 months is an eating machine! Also had mild jaundice to begin with, but no treatment - went away after a few weeks on its own.

@paigeface: My son was born at 34 weeks and my daughter at 37 weeks. DS spent 10 days in the NICU and DD 0 days. I know it's unexpected but the baby is term. Good luck mama!!!

DS was born by scheduled c-section (medical reasons) at 37 weeks and he was totally healthy. I had a similar experience to @Nutella: besides being sleepy and needing to wake him to nurse, no issues at all.

@paigeface: Good luck! 37 weeks is not that early, especially with no other complications, don't freak out. A lot of babies are born MUCH earlier than that.

@paigeface: good luck! My son was born a little past 37 weeks (I was induced for medical reasons) and he was more than fine. He was 7lb 7oz
They specifically waited to induce me at 37 weeks because it is term and likely no issues. So try not to worry! He only spent time in the NICU because I had a fever, nothing to do with his development!
I was also really scared to have him early (I only found out with a couple days notice I was being induced). I did feel like I didn't have enough done and I was missing the final few weeks alone with my husband. Not going to lie, I felt that way for a while. But I promise it went away and now I am glad I got 3 extra weeks with my son Wall me if you need to chat! It's scary but the cliche is true - it's so worth it! xoxo

Mine was born at 37 weeks exactly. He was fine except he lost a little too much weight (which was quickly remedied) and was a little jaundiced (which went away with a little supplementation). Went home right away.
