I know that a lot of doctors prescibe metformin to deal with PCOS but I take it to help control my diabetes. I tried to figure out what it does for people with PCOS but didn't have a lot of luck, so I hoped a bee could answer the question for me:

Insulin resistance and PCOS are often linked. So controlling the former helps the latter. It can also help some PCOS patients with weight loss, which in itself can help with TTC. Apparently it can help boost the effectiveness of Clomid.
