The ones near us follow a school calendar as well.

The daycare centers and in-homes hire additional help in the summer to take care of the additional children.

I will add though - one of them provides after school care, and they also extend it to holidays schools are closed!

I hesitate to say this because I am still waiting for ours to open! Don't want to jinx it. But it is a daycare that uses montessori method.

The closest montessori school (18 months to 8th grade) does run on a school schedule but has aftercare for extra $$

School year, but most of them have some sort of "summer program" as well. It does seem like they are all closed for the month of August, though -- even some of the non-Montessori.

I nannied full time for a family that sent their kids to a Montessori school, half days. But I think grandparents paid for or at least heavily contributed toward the cost of the program.

@mediagirl: I looked at several in our area as I was considering changing LO from daycare to a montessori, however, because of the limited hours and summers it wouldn't work out for us as two parents working full time, without an extra nanny or some such, and I couldn't justify the extra logistics or cost.

ETA: I also decided against it as while I like the idea of montessori, I'm not sureit is a good fit for my LO at this point.

I think most Montessori schools follow a school calendar, since they usually count themselves as "schools" and not a child care facility. I have heard of some day cares that follow the Montessori method, maybe there is something like that in your area?

My daughter’s Montessori school is full year, with a week off in August and a week off in the winter, and a week off for Spring Break. They have options for 2 days/3 days/5 days a week, ½ day/full day with before/after school care. These were part of the criteria of the school we chose in that it had to be full year, offer 3 days a week, have before/after school care, and offer lunch.
