DS, who is 2.5, fell at the park yesterday while at school. I took him to the ER and they x-rayed his foot and said everything looked ok and to ice it. Today, he still could not stand on it, let alone walk, so we went back to the ER. They x-rayed the whole leg and saw that he broke his fibula. He's now in a cast from his foot to above the knee. I was trying really hard not to cry while they put it on him. The cast is supposed to stay on for the next three weeks. He has a little shoe, so he is allowed to walk somewhat, but he hasn't tried to yet.

I just spoke to his daycare and the director said she is only comfortable with him coming to school from 8-10am because they go to the park every day. The alternative is that I bring him at noon and he has his lunch and nap there with a little play in the afternoon. School closes at 4. I'm not sure how comfortable he will be sleeping on a little cot. I work from home, so I am flexible, but I do need a few hours of uninterrupted quiet time and I don't want him to miss 3 weeks of socialization.

Has anyone ever dealt with a toddler with a broken leg? I have no idea how I am going to keep him active and engaged and not go crazy for the next few weeks. I would appreciate any advice or tips.
