I've told you my gripe with this before as your LO and I share a name. Someone actually asked me a few weeks ago if I was named after the Shrek movie. Excuse me?

ETA: I think thats the danger of a name thats unique at all. Any similarities in film etc will be more glaring than a more run of the mill name. Oy.

@Mae: I'm irrationally annoyed by uncommon names that turn popular. We purposefully chose Chloe because it isn't popular, then it turned up on the Top 10 list later that year. Charlotte is old fashioned & neither of us had ever met someone with that name. Now it's #2 on the list!

I totally get that. I was irrationally worried that Kimye were going to use our baby girl name, but spell it with a K (we were due in the same month and C's name, obviously, starts with a C but has a K sound). Lucky for us, North wasn't one of our top choices.

@Mae: have you read he book? Fiona is a main character I'm excited to see the movie!
I understand your annoyance though. Who knew they would just now take that classic- 20 years old- and turn it into a film.

I would be surprised if there was a movie with J's name- but there are already a handful of athletes with the name so I guess I wouldn't be too surprised.

@blackbird: that movie was so disappointing compared to the book.

@knittylady: ummm what!? Do they not realize that movie is barely 10 years old?

I didn't know there was a giver movie coming out! Exciting!

I think in Brave or Tangled or something the prince is named Eugene and changes it to something "cooler." Hopefully Gene won't be offended when/if he sees the movie! One of the kids in our neighborhood asked if he we named him after the movie character, haha.

@Mae: yeah I feel like Fiona has actually been pretty prevalent in our culture already BUT I LOVE the name. It's beautiful!

@Mae: Shameless is dramedy about a dysfunctional family. The alcoholic and drug addicted dad is played by William H Macy and the oldest sibling caring for all the siblings is named Fiona played by Emma Rosen. The original series is from the UK. Shameless is in it's 3rd or 4th season and airs on Showtime.

@jedeve: We were at a local outdoor showing of Frozen the other night at the State Capitol and there was a two guy band playing beforehand. Their closing song was Cecilia and our Cecilia was so excited that they played it "just for her"

I'm the opposite actually, I love seeing Luna's name pop up more. I just saw a new kids show called "Earth to Luna" and got super excited about it haha!

Though it does get a teensy bit on my nerves of people ask me "did you name her after Luna in Harry Potter/Sailor Moon/My Little Pony (didn't even know about the last one until someone asked lol) etc" lol. I am not someone who would name a child after a character!

I haven't had this happen to me yet (well that I'm aware of) most just ask how I came up with her name. I wasn't aware that her name was that "uncommon" until how many people asked me about it. I'm a name person so I knew it had been around at least online for while and was growing in popularity, although I did not know anyone with her name in real life. Now, a couple I went to high school with just named their daughter it too. Which I was fine with we aren't close with them by any means.
