For inexpensive, I've usually had decent luck with Steve Madden. But they never hold up long. I have wide-ish feet and am running around to meetings most of my day. I've actually found JCrew and Banana Republic to have pretty comfy shoes and you can usually score major sales in the stores (like $270 marked down to $32).

I have two pairs of Kenneth Cole Reaction pumps in different styles. Well cushioned and he makes some heels in a slightly lower heel height (2.5" instead of 3.5" inch) which makes a big difference to me comfort wise. You can often find them on sale at Macy's, Amazon, etc.

Agree with Ash - Nine West is my favorite for basic black pumps. They also have a variety of heel heights, which was nice for me since I can't do super high heels. I think this is the pair I have which I've pretty much worn to death: http://www.zappos.com/nine-west-austin-black-kid-leather

I read this thinking breast pump. I was trying to figure out why you would need a black one!

I found great ones at Payless in wides. I can't remember the brand name.

@Espion: Haha, I'm not never pregnant anymore and I was like - I think mine is yellow! Never heard of a black one...

Naturalizer makes some nice basic ones. I'm on my second pair. It's kinda an old lady brand so they aren't anything sexy. It they have the comfort (I mostly look for a rounded toe that won't pinch my wide feet and a wider heel that helps distribute my weight )

@Mrs. Pen: My strategy is to order 10 pairs from Zappos and then keep the most comfortable pair. With free shipping, and free returns, it's not a bad deal.
