I'm 4 days into this and I'm wondering, what is normal?

I had a really tough time with my first. Poor latch, no suck reflex... He gnawed on me 24-7 and got nothing. My "supply" was nonexistent and I had to use Domperidone to maintain just enough for comfort nursing and minimal pump output.

Now, H is 4 days old and seems content, has a pretty good latch (though my nips feel sore in a "bruised" way), and all the mechanics seem good. I don't feel engorged, but he has been nursing anywhere between 10 minutes to 20 minutes per side, but the interval is sometimes less than an hour. (I already try to nurse every 2 hours because he is a big guy.)

Maybe I'm gun shy from my first experience, but what was your experience feeding newborns on demand? Do they self regulate to longer intervals? Is he "snacking" because he's not getting enough? It just seems early for cluster feeding. I thought that was a 4 to 6 week thing.

I'm trying to reassure myself that you can have boobs that are not engorged at all and still "work".
