My second baby cluster fed immediately and I felt crazy. It was normal- hang in there!

when she was little, an hour between feedings wasn't uncommon, even when it seemed like the nursing was 30+ minutes at a time.

4 days in your supply is only just coming in and lo is still confused about this strange new world. This all sounds pretty normal for now.

At that point, you should be nursing just about day and night - absolutely on demand. He will regulate to a more tolerable schedule before too long, but at this point, you need to nurse as much as he wants to build your supply.

Just wanted to throw it out there that sucking / nursing is one of the most soothing activities so even if your little guy isn't hungry as such, nursing will still make him feel good It also keeps him close to you which in turn keeps him safe from an instinctive point of view.

All good advice above one other thing nursing sessions are beginning to beginning so say he starts at noon and nurse on the left until 12:20 and then on the right until 12:30 then he wants to nurse at 1:30 that's considered 90 minutes between sessions. This confused me for weeks bc I thought it wasn't normal that I wasn't getting 2 hours between sessions.

Totally normal. Pull up the netflix, stock up on snacks, and just prepare to be there. It doesn't last forever!

Yep, first two weeks we nursed almost non-stop. It was hard but I do think it helped establish a good supply. One thing that helped calm my fears was having a lactation consultant come to the house. She weigh DS before and after nursing so I knew he was getting a lot. She also helped troubleshoot his latch and my soreness.

I fed my baby anytime she cried that early. If they cry, feed them! Mine did regulate to longer intervals around 2mo- by then it was about every 3 hrs during the day. I wrote down the times I fed her and noticed a rough schedule- i still fed on demand but I knew when to expect it.

So I think it sounds normal. I never got really too engorged. They got big the morning my milk came in but otherwise I never had much of an issue with it.

Can you feel your breasts before and after a feeding? they should get softer.

Mine nursed up to 30-40 m before my milk came in and then after that she'd nurse about 20m.

@Espion: so maybe you are still switching from colostrum to milk at this point and the nursing times will go down. That was my experience this time anyway. With my first, though, she nursed a lot longer and soemtimes on both sides, so it can vary widely i suppose. I think it all sounds normal though so dont think your breastfeeding journey is doomed!

I think pretty much anything is "normal" as long as he seems satisfied after his feed and he is having 6-8 wet diapers and 1-2 poops in 24 hours. Hang in there, you're doing great! It gets so much easier.
