The hall bath needs painted. OH has said he wants an orange or yellow wall color (preferably orange). The tub, sink, and toilet are a light beige, the vanity is black, and the fixtures are a dark bronze. I was going for a nautical theme, but I can't seem to work orange into that! Any ideas on color?

@Ms. RV: hahaha. I see. I think orange is a pretty jarring color so difficult to pull off. Maybe skew toward a burnt sienna type orange?

I agree with @Meowkers: about orange being a challenging color for a bathroom. Could you maybe just use it as an accent color? Like paint the walls a darker taupe/greige color and get orange prints for the wall or towels?

Brass was the thing that was hanging me up (I couldn't imagine brass and orange together), but here is a picture of a bathroom with both.
Rope accents might look nice with orange as well, and lend a nautical vibe. You can also do nautical shapes (shells, anchors, buoys) in any color. Could you sway DH to a corally-orange? What's more nautical than coral?

I should have said the reason why he wants yellow/orange is to hide "misses", he wants to paint the entire room that color. Ugh.

I'm redoing the kids/guest bathroom right now and I'm doing an orange accent wall. Orange is my DH's FAVORITE color and I feel bad that we have no orange in the house

@Ms. RV: oh man for that reason I'd veto those colors!! But I agree, maybe a wallpaper behind the splash zone. And I'd find some sort of gloss you could paint over it for easy wipe-ability (gross). I don't know if that even exists but I wouldn't want a lot of constant moisture on a wallpaper
Or maybe veto his whole plan and just paint it how you want one day and cross your fingers. -
It might not be an obvious choice but I think yellow especially could look really cool with navy, rope, and brass nautical accents. I think it could be done with orange but easier to pull off with yellow.

@MaryM: wow you have separate bathrooms?? My mom said her dream master suite has two full bathrooms.. I think she would be willing to part with quite a bit in a house for that.

I think orange could work with a nautical them if done in bold stripes, but you'd want to choose a muted shade as bright stripes would be a bit much for a bathroom.

@2littlepumpkins: when we got married, we lived in a small townhouse with one full bath and a half in the basement (that we didn't use much)
For the sake of our marriage, we had to find a place with two full baths when we bought a bigger place!
I use the guest bathroom (it's bigger anyway) and he uses the master. I rarely go in there. Lol
I always thought it was weird my mom didn't use her master bath. She shared with my sister and I. Now I get it! (Though my dad kept his bathroom rather clean!)
