For those of you with outdoor playhouses, did you just plop it on the grass? Did you create some sort of floor surface? We ordered a playhouse from Costco which is being delivered on Wednesday and I’m trying to figure out whether to put it on pavers, cement, playground tiles, grass, etc?

We have one of those plastic ones- I think little tykes but I’m not 100% sure because it was a hand me down. We just have it on our grass in the backyard, and all the grass underneath it has died. It’s in a spot that the grass is kind of weak anyway but I’ve been trying to move it around in hopes of limiting the damage.

We put it on our patio (pavers). The patio runs the length of the house, so we have the space. And we did not want to kill the grass.

We plopped it and the sandbox next to our porch which is next to a small gravel garden area (maybe once an overgrown rock garden or desert-y type plants garden with gravel mulch). Anyway, it is not pretty but at least there’s no worry about killing plants or grass underneath the toys!

We have a Little Tykes one and popped it on the grass close to our swing set.

We put ours (little tykes plastic) up against our house...there is a mulch bed there so we scraped the mulch away then did large 1'x1' pavers as a base...

If it's wood, I would for sure try to put it on a surface of some sort so the bottom doesn't rot out.

Ours is on the cement patio. but perhaps I should strategically place it over the weeds I want to kill in my backyard...

We have a deck and this house is maybe 7 feet by 6 feet so it definitely won't fit on any existing surface we have. I have been getting quotes from various contractors and it is about $1500 to have a cement pad or brick pavers put down (which is 2 to 3 times the cost of the house itself). Ugh. I had no idea it would be so expensive and my husband and I are the least handy people ever.

@Shantuck: before we built our play area, we just had our playhouse on the lawn. When the grass died we bought a roll of cheap turf and cut out a square to go underneath. Quick, easy and inexpensive!

@Shantuck: I think you could just buy the pavers and put them down side my side- don’t need them to be properly grouted or anything, so even an unhandy person could do it. Or just accept that the grass will die underneath it and move on (like we did
)
