My twin boys are five and we’ve promised them a “clubhouse “ this summer. Our yard is not huge but will definitely fit something, but no trees for a treehouse. My hope is something they will use for a while. Is it worth getting a play set like this, or will they outgrow the swing/slide part too soon? http://www.cedarsummitplay.com/products/mckinley/

I can't really speak to the age issue, but we have a very similar playset (same company) and my kids love it. I'm so glad that we got one with the "house" component as that, and the imaginative play that goes along with it, is definitely their favorite part. My kids are 5, 3, and a baby so I know that someone will be using it for a long time, but my five year old daughter and her friends have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it already in 1 year.

The only experience i have is my aunt has had one for 10 years. Her youngest who is 7 still plays with it. It also gets a lot of use from the family and friends. I think you would still get many years out of it.

We've just started building this (https://www.thehandmadehome.net/2012/06/a-handmade-hideaway/) for our kids. I liked the house part because I think that's what will grow with them the most. My boys are really young but neither like swings at all right now so I didn't feel like we should include it in our plans.

We went premade and simple, because I knew if we went with something complicated it would never get completed.
My son just turned 7 and he still plays with the outdoor thing we have. It actually gets used all 4 seasons and I am glad we have it.

My husband and my father in law built ours in a weekend (minus the roof, that happened the next summer)
It's about 4 feet off the ground with a sand box under it. Stairs to get up and a slide to get down. It's a hit with everyone so far! It's just a square box on stilts basically.. they came up with their own plan.

I've been researching playhouses over the last couple of weeks. I think my husband would prefer one that is part of a swing set but I was hoping for a standalone one. We live in a large city and we have a small yard so space is tight. I'd like to get one of the ones made by the Little Cottage Co.
