I heard from someone recently who said their SO doesn't talk about other people. I was shocked by that, because I thought it is something everyone does. Do you talk about other people?

Yes, and I think anyone who claims to never talk about anyone else is most likely fibbing!

Totally! What else would we talk about if we didn't? It's mostly co-workers since we see them every day. We also play games when we're in the mall or grocery stores where we make up scenarios about people we see.

Of course! It is impossible not to. Do you mean talk behind their backs in a bad way? Or just talking in general?

My husband doesn't like to, I sometimes make him do it because I think it is healthier, it is not like by not saying things you aren't thinking them. Good and bad things.

We try not to but it happens more often than we would like. In fact, we just went out to breakfast and talked about people the entire time. We haven't laughed so hard in ages! It was mostly just recalling stories about people from when we were younger. We would also make up scenarios about people as they walked by. One of the best times we've had together recently.

We do. We talk about good and bad things. My husband always comes home from work with stories of the day.

@yoursilverlining:
Ditto.
If you talk about your work day and complain about a co-worker that's talking about other people! When you vent about something to your SO there's usually a person involved. That's talking about other people.
So yes, we do. No holds barred when it comes to conversations between my husband and I.

Yes, I talk badly about people way too much and I have recently been trying not to because it isn't right.

We do, but we try to keep it to recent actions so we're talking about events that happened, instead of a full on character assassination. I do try to avoid talking about people badly to friends if it's someone who they're also friends with. I vent to my husband if I'm annoyed with a friend and try not to trash them to other friends, no need to spread the irritation.
But especially with parenting I find it helps my husband and I to talk about what we like and what we don't like about other peoples style so it's gossiping I guess, I think it's useful to learn from other people's mistakes .

I used to and I found that it feeds on itself (and not in a good way!) I've never heard Mr. Jacks' mom say a bad word about anyone, and we try to model ourselves on that. If we have a problem at work or something, we might discuss it, but only in the context of how it relates to us and not in a gossipy way. Gossip is a habit and I was surprised that once we broke it, I felt SO much better about myself!

yeah. we keep each other posted on what's going on with people we know.

There's talking about people and there's nasty gossiping about people. I talk about people all the time -who doesn't! I try to curb the gossip though as I think it's unhealthy all round.
