I think J is close to 7 lbs so he's still a peanut but OMG with the CDs, Carters NB size shorts don't fit on him! 
I refuse to go back to disposables just to dress him though because they gave him a raging rash.
Do I need to go up to 0-3 for bottoms? Is there a brand that works better?

Size up. I don't think any clothes are meant for CDing! 0-3, 3 months!

I found that the real Carter's brand fits best with cloth diapers for my LO. DS just hit 3 months and has outgrown all of his other 0-3 stuff (old navy, gap) but he can still wear Carter's 0-3 with cloth diapers. He's only wearing onesies right now because it's hot where we are, but their one pieces still fit with disposables. He's pretty long so he outgrows the one pieces a little faster I think. I haven't tried their bottoms yet. He still has room in his 0-3 onesies while wearing a CD though! (We use Bumgenius 4.0 and Freetimes).

Haha, this is the biggest reason why I dislike CDing. Sooo many cute pants she can't wear. L is 17 months and I still can't put her in structured pants (jeans, shorts with a real waistband and button/zipper)
I've just always sized up the leggings. My favorite brands of leggings right now are Circo @ Target and Old Navy. I actually like the quality of the Circo ones better than the Old Navy ones.
Oh, and L was born in January, but I didn't really start putting pants on her until she was like 4 or 5 months old - they just looked soooo funny with the CDs. Onesies for my babies!

So I didn't really put pants on my kid much. She was in a onesie or just a t-shirt and diaper most of the time. i don't see the point in pants at home, honestly! and onesies work great out in public (and less to mess with). Now that E is older, we do a lot of dresses+diaper covers or shorts (usually a size up OR stretchy) and t-shirts. We do a lot of leggings in the fall/winter. But i didn't mess with "real" clothes for awhile 
And if you sew, i actually made her some pajama pants where the pattern had a "slim" and a "comfy" fit for disposable or cloth diapering and the comfy fit works GREAT

@autumnlove: I like those textures! It took me this long to remember I have a container with Carters/Gap pants and shorts in different sizes...insomnia strikes!

I have had great luck with pants from H&M (most have an adjustable elastic and button system inside to adjust the size) - these work great on CD bottoms.

Rompers work great, too, with CDing. I love them on little girls (not on adults, haha) They're pretty roomy!

@spaniellove: in the uk we have a clothing make called frugi which is for CD bums. They are expensive but there's quite a few on eay and of course there's no need to buy their dresses or tops. Do you have those over there?

I found that Carter's shorts/pants required a full size up to fit over the 4.0s we use. Up until he was around 6 months old he looked pretty funny (in a cute way) with a huge bum but now it's more proportionate.
The brands that work best for bottoms for us are: khols jumping beans cotton cargo shorts & pants from h&m kids. H&m is actually the only brand that fits true to size on my chunky guy. He's almost 8 months and wears 6-9 months from them. Everything else 12 months or more!

We've always done a size up for bottoms. LO #1 has always been a peanut, so she would be in 9 month top and 18 month bottoms, because of her CD! LO #2 is a chunker, so I'm not sure we'll have the same problem this time around

These are such great tips! When he wakes up I'm going to try 0-3 on him and take a look online at these other brands! I'm not understanding how a baby who was wearing preemie 2 weeks ago now needs 0-3...

We size up. In a disposable, my daughter can wear 6-12 month pants. In her cloth, she is in 18 months.

Definitely size up. Also, some CD's are trimmer than others, so we don't normally have to size up if we are just using an insert/cover. If I'm using a pocket, I have to size up.

We just size up! He consistently wears one size ahead of his age in CDs. I second the suggestion for rompers too!

Everyone said what I would which is to size up, but know it gets better the older they get. And, my kid didn't wear anything but a sleepy until he was at least 5 months old- it's easy and comfy!

After trying a pair of 0-3 Carters knit shorts and Gap knit pants the Gap pants fit a lot better! I had to roll them up but they look cute and comfortable.
@bluestriped bee: I have a few newborn BGs and after the last few days have decided to suck it up and buy a bunch more. Don't know why I was such a masochist and tried to use prefolds with covers (Thirsties w/ fitteds, Bummis Super Brite, Bummis Original Wrap). That was all the last thing we needed when we are so tired!
