I saw this on Mrs. Bee's link roundup:

What do you think? I'm honestly giving it the side eye! Here are my thoughts:

1. When a bad thing happens, it is typically the best idea to look at how we have contributed to the problem before blaming others. Ok, so sending a party invite a month into the school year at a new school, not making calls, and not thinking ahead (maybe we should cancel or have a plan b)...I personally am always worried I won't have a big crowd and so I usually expect the worst/hope for the best, or at least send out a reminder or make calls.

2.) I'm driven a little mad by all the birthday invites we get at school! For a while there it seemed like we were getting one a week. Until my son starts talking specifically about a kid and identifies him as a friend, I don't plan on taking him to that kid's party. We didn't do a class invite as my son was born in August and it was his first year at the school, so we knew literally no-one. It just feels a little silly to go to a party being hosted by someone I've never met, honoring a kid I've never met! Like, one more task in my week that I didn't anticipate. And I think the hazard of blasting invites to people you've never met is that they might not feel obligated to communicate with you. If it happens, yay, if not, oh well....! I am on a personal mission to reduce the number of school-related obligations we have though...the weekly costumes/show-and-tells/etc. are already maddening enough...
