If your LO developed a rash on the tail end of a virus, would you take him/her to the doctor, or just assume it was related to the virus? In just the last couple days Alice seems completely recovered from the stomach bug we had a week ago. But now she has a rash on her stomach. Would you head to the ped in this instance? (I'll take a picture if anyone would like to see it)

Did she have a fever? Could it have been roseola?

@hilsy85: She was running a little warmer than usual, but never over 100 when I checked rectally. She was in the ped on Friday and there wasn't anything wrong, other than teething (new mom fail! Totally thought ear infection).

I was thinking the same - if you think it's roseola probably no need to go in. If I was feeling anxious about it I would just call the ped and ask if you should bring her in.

I would also suspect Roseola. Does your ped have a call in line where you can speak to a doctor or nurse? I called once his fever broke and the rash appeared and the doctor let me know there was no need to bring him in. Saved me a copay!

E always gets a rash at the end! The dr always told she was almost over it, then!

@blackbird: I hope that's all it is! We are supposed to go see my sister's kids this weekend and we may have to cancel if it's roseola so they don't get it. We are going to ped at 10:30 for them to check her out!

@twodoghouse: pretty sure roseola rash only shows up when the virus has run its course so she shouldn't be contagious anymore!

@twodoghouse: K usually gets a rash after a virus, but I usually take her if it lasts more than 2 days. Once it was roseola, but it usually is just a viral thing. Hope it clears up soon!

I would probably call the nurse line just for peace of mind, but I wouldn't worry too much.

I doubt it's roseola, they usually have a super high fever with that. When D had it, he was between 102-104.5 for like 4 days. My ped said you can often have rashes after a virus. You can check with yours, but I think typically once the rash comes out they're no longer contagious.

Ok just took her in. There's a good chance it's just the final hurrah of this virus, so to speak. But, it also looked and felt like the rash associated with strep. She's only 10 months so it'd be weird to have strep, but she was at brunch with an affectionate 3 year old yesterday. Anyway, the rapid culture strep test came back negative so we'll wait to see if the results change in the next 48 hours. The rash itself has spread and gotten "angrier," especially under arms which I guess is common for strep as well. It's rough to the touch (like sand paper) which worried the ped. Anyway, now we just wait and see. Thanks everyone for weighing in!

@twodoghouse: When H got strep, her rapid test was negative but the 48-hr. was positive. I hope that that's not what it is, but if so, the antibiotics will have her feeling better quickly!

@avivoca: Did H get a rash? I never remembered a rash from childhood (I got strep every year, it seemed), so I didn't even know a rash could indicate strep! She's actually in a great mood, so I'm hoping that's a good sign? I guess we'll know in the next 48 hours!

@twodoghouse: I can't remember. She was snotty and her throat looked fine at the doctor's appointment, but she was generally in good spirits, if not a little cranky/clingy. If she had one, I probably chalked it up to the change in soap.

@avivoca: Alice's throat was fine too, but she does have some congestion. Interesting. I'll update if we hear that she does have strep! If so, I'm hoping antibiotics will clear it right up and hopefully we can avoid Blake getting it too.

Yes, LO 2 got a rash and hives a few times after being sick. Dr told us it was just related to the virus.

N just had this. He had a stomach bug a 10 days ago. Then he had a random high fever a week after that. Yesterday, he had a similar rash on his stomach. We assumed roseola.

My lo had same thing stomach bug for a week and then rash appeared on her stomach, back and neck..took her to ped and she said that it is sign of viral infection being over and actually she started feeling better the evening rash appeared and I put some coconut oil on it and it was gone in 48 hours...hope she feels better soon.

@twodoghouse: My niece had a rash once that felt like sand paper and it turned out to be scarlet fever, which I believe is related strip (not totally sure). Good thing, you got LO checked out!

@Mamasig: Yeah, I googled strep throat with a rash, and apparently that's what scarlet fever is! I had no idea. She still feels fine, so I'm thinking it may just be the end of her virus. Fingers crossed!

@twodoghouse: did you ever figure out what this was? We were just at the doctor for a fever and a possible pink eye this morning and now she has a rash similar to this.

@BabyBySurpise: It was just a rash she got at the end of that virus. Almost every time she gets sick (it's happened with colds and with HFM) she gets a rash at the end. It usually lasts half a day, 24 hours at most. It never seems uncomfortable or anything. So weird! I hope your little one feels better soon!

@twodoghouse: thanks! After doing some reading I'm thinking its rosela. It showed up almost exactly 12 hours after the fever broke.
May call the ped in the morning cause 7 days ( twice a day) of eye drops just incase of pink eye is not going to be fun for anyone.

@twodoghouse: @BabyBySurpise: The picture looks like roseola to me too. My son had it, he had a low-grade fever, and we didn't take him in until the rash appeared. By then, his doctor said he wasn't even contagious anymore.
We've had quite a few viruses where the fever comes first and a rash follows (like HFM).

@Mrs. Pen: thanks for the response. I'm was actually beginning to think that maybe it wasn't rosela because she never got higher than 102 and she only had a fever for about 12hrs. I'm going to see what it looks like and then decided if it's worth another trip to the doctor. Fwiw the spots are super light.
