We need a new patio set, what do you recommend?
We currently have a 3 piece wood set that is warping / paint is pealing. Before that we had metal-mesh set that lasted quite a while but was rusting from the inside out.
These will be on a small uncovered deck. 2-4 seats, I would love a rocking set but I don't want to spend more than $200.

@snowjewelz: Probably the later, our deck is 10 ft. wide so I don't want to take up a ton of space, a little bistro table would probably be enough.

I'm curious what is the best material to buy, that will last the longest. How does wicker hold up outside?

Wicker doesn't hold up great in our experience.
We have rod iron that has lasted for years. The nice part is when the finish or paint starts to look bad you can just spray paint it. If I was looking for something that didn't require being covered when not in use, I would do rod iron.

Mine must be some kind of iron too then. Got it from Macys way back when we had giftcards from our wedding. It's been 5 years and we don't do anything to it and it still looks new!

@LBee: I found a really cute Wicker set that's on sale for $31, I suppose at that price it's okay if it doesn't last long.

Not on my dining set.
I did get a bench/side table set from Target 1-2 years ago and got outdoor cushion to put on it. The exact style isn't there anymore, but I'm led to believe it's aluminum and it's held up well so far.

I have had these style chairs for about 12 years now. They did a couple winters in the northeast and many years in the southern heat and sun.
