just spending a friday afternoon distracting myself with gear for baby #2. we currently have a skip hop diaper backpack (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0731TBBWF/ref=s9_acsd_zgift_hd_bw_bBHjiV_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-11&pf_rd_r=4A7YV03BK7N19X6HNXM1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=87164ea6-7f1b-5041-9c3b-9c98a2372e08&pf_rd_i=166767011) that has worked well for us, but doesn't fit fully comfortably when worn as a backpack, and i think it's just going to be too small for two, at least for a while. i'm also thinking i'm going to want a bunch of compartments to try to keep LO1 and LO2 stuff organized. anyone have a large and easy to organize diaper bag (preferably backpack but we're flexible) that they love?

Jujube bff. Has inner compartments. Backpack or messenger strap. Outside bottle pockets, which I comfortably use for mine and my toddlers water. It does come with a changing mat that's pretty small but that's easily remedied
I used it for one in cloth and always had lots of roomEta to add. Jujube is on zulily today and shows up quite often

I really love my Leader diaper backpack. Easily fits stuff for two kids plus my stuff, comes with an insanely beautiful diaper clutch. Ive been really happy with it. I have the leather set, but I’ve seem the canvas set in person and it is great also.

Now that lo1 is older though and I’m carrying less stuff, I have a diaper bag from freshly picked that I love! It’s super chic and can be either backpack or crossbody. I’ve even used it as a work bag without diapers, lol, it fit a laptop!

I have an evermore from house of flynn that is a diaper bag/ camera bag so it is great for organizing and has a cross body strap as well as hidden backpack straps.

We have the Haptim backpack off Amazon and like it so far. The stroller straps are handy and lots of compartments. My only complaint is if you don't zip it closed all the way it tends to unzip itself, but otherwise I love it.

I'm using the boxy backpack from petunia pickle bottom. I like it better than the diaper bag I used with my first child, which was messanger style. I ended up switching to a cute dino kids backpack with him quite early. I like the fun prints.

thanks so much for the recs! hm now i have too many options to choose from. @SugarMaple: do you find the boxy backpack to be awkward to actually wear--does it swing around? i think i'm a little more used to the tall and narrow backpacks, but i've heard great things about that one.

@nwm: I'd pick jjb bff over the petunia pickle bottom one. My friend has the boxy backpack, it just died, the strap tore off, and our girls are 2.5. I have a bff that's the same age, same amount of use and still looks perfect.

@nwm: the pockets are excellent. Lol I now own extra bags but if we're successful on a second I will likely go back to the bff because it has lots of room and pockets!

@MamaBear87: haha yeah it's hard to not accumulate those extra bags! my one remaining question is the same with the petunia one though--do you find it at all awkward to wear as a backpack given the short and squat shape? i'm wondering whether if you're running after a toddler and really trying to be hands free, does it bop all around or force you to wear it low on your back? or can you really wear it without noticing it?

@nwm: it's vaguely awkward as a backpack but not bad. And totally worth it for the messenger option when baby gets bigger and you want to back carry. (I suppose I shouldn't assume you babywear but I do and I hate the tall ones because they don't offer a messenger option)
Eta to be honest I find all backpacks noticeable when chasing a toddler. They're a big heavy bag strapped to your back but I find the bff no worse than others

@nwm: I mostly notice it being bulckly when I'm putting it on (since it's wider), but once on it doesn't bother me. I like the changing pad feature and pockets.
I think to not notice the backpack it would need to be small. But that doesn't allow for me to carry much stuff. For the baby stage I love this bag. -

During the newborn phase, I typically carried 2 bags. I had a giant Kate Spade tote that had all the things in it that lived in the trunk and then I would carry more essential items in our Skip Hop messenger bag since we could just throw it over the stroller handlebar easily.
However, once our youngest was 6 months old, we actually found it easiest to carry a lightweight basic backpack - we got this one:
We got it in a bright color so our toddler or the other parent could easily spot the parent wearing the backpack out in public. We kept 3 small packing cubes inside the backpack. One with diapering stuff, one with snacks/baby food, and one with spare clothes/bibs/socks for the kids. The front pocket would hold things like Boogie Wipes and odds and ends. We dangled a little pocket hand sanitizer on the zipper, kept a caribiner clipped to one the straps in case we needed to clip keys or something on it, and away we went!
ETA: For diapering, we found it easiest just to pack a puppy pee pad - they fold so flat and they are a nice big clean surface to change the kids on. If they get dirty, we can toss them.
