I have a friend that is doing the opposite. They are catholic, but their girls attend a lutheran preschool. She hasn't seen any impact and in general loves that they are getting exposed to religion in any form. Would the school be able to give you the contact information for a few parents that have kids that go there so that you could ask them how they like it?

I was raised Catholic, attended Catholic school K-12. We now attend a Methodist church and baptized LO in the Methodist church.

I think the religion lessons they teach at such a young age are pretty universal - I doubt they will get into the specific differences (there really aren't all that many) until they are older.

I actually attended preschool at a Lutheran church and I think the religion lessons were pretty minimal.

We're Catholic and M attends preschool in a Lutheran church. The families there are a mix of religions and the kids learn about the Bible and Christianity in a general way - more about being kind to others, saying prayers before snack, etc. It has not been an issue.

As a non practicing Catholic, I knew Catholic preschool was no longer an option when my son came home from Catholic daycare and began to pray.

T goes to a catholic daycare, we are agnostic. It's at a private K-8 school. I'm going to talk to the director about the material before enrolling her in the preschool. I've been really happy there and it's a good fit for T. We chose it because it's flexible with schedules and my close friends kids go there.

@LuLu Mom: Then I'd try to identify what specific Catholic thing is concerning.

@LuLu Mom: I highly doubt they will get into those deeper levels of catholicism in preschool! Unless you don't like the idea of praying to saints? Off the top of my head thats the only thing I can think of.

@LuLu Mom: we are Methodist and have our daughters in a Catholic daycare/preschool. I think our school actually has a much bigger focus on religion than I originally anticipated, but that is a positive for me. They teach a lot about God, Jesus and loving one another. They also pray before meals and visit the chapel maybe once a month or so? My 3 year old tells us that they go into the church to pray to Jesus and sing songs. She's learned about Mary through school but just that she's Jesus' mommy. Nothing about praying to her. The preist does drop in from time to time and says hi to all the kids during school.

She is definitely not the only non-Catholic there, and there are kids in her class that are openly non-religious, but clearly ok with their kids learning about it in school.

If it's a great school, I wouldn't let a difference in denomination keep you from sending your kids there!

@junebugsmama: @LuLu Mom: Just to clarify - Catholics don't actually pray TO Mary or the other saints, though I definitely get the misconception now that I've moved to the Protestant side. Catholics more ask Mary and the saints to pray for them. But I agree that at most your child would just hear about "good people" if they talk about saints (some classes may have a lesson on saints for All Saints Day, but it's usually more a history-type lesson).
