If they bought it at BRU they will give you a store credit for the last sale price of the item. They will know if the items were purchased at BRU when it is scanned.

Check your registry. If they purchased it with other stuff from your registry, it will have added that item to your registry, and then you can absolutely return it with no problem.

If they sell it at Target, they will take it back without a receipt and give you store credit.

@lady baltimore: thanks for asking this question. I have some things to return. I think some were purchased through Amazon. I'll try BBB, then Target then BRU. Maybe even try walmart. I had a registry at Target, BRU, Amazon and BBB, but didn't necessarily use or keep the registry up to date. I had an out of state shower and used baby list.com to compile all the products in one location.

I have made baby returns to Target and BBB without a receipt without any issue. They will ask for your ID to keep track of how often you make returns without a receipt in a year. I think they have a cap, but I'm not entirely sure.

For Target/BBB/BRU, my experience is that if they sell it, they'll most likely take it and give you store credit! I returned all kinds of things, gifted, or I bought it and never used it and don't remember where they came from!

Different companies have different bar codes for the same product. So you can probably google the item number to see where it came from.
