I'm in PA and its 31 August - DS has a September birthday so he missed it. The biggest reason this bothered me was the additional year of DCP costs!

I'm in northern NJ (on the NY border) and it's 10/1. But less than a mile away in NY it's 12/1.

@Mamaof2: Yes, this is the thing that bothers me the most about it too. Our cut-off used to be Oct. 1 and H has an Oct. 7 birthday, but they just moved it to Aug. 1 and now I definitely have to pay an extra year of DCP costs for both girls (public schools charge tuition for any children in K who are not 5 by the cutoff).

I'm in SoCal and the cutoff is sept 1 but kids can go to tk w sept-dec 2 birthdays. In my case I think the cutoff worked out. My daughter falls in the TK range and. I think it'll be good for her to be the oldest in her class, so she has some time to develop socially a bit more as she can be timid. I just wish it was a full day program. Ds has an August bday and I think that's good because he is very ready socially and academically to be with older kids.

Louisiana - September 30. I have a September baby and he started on time. I did worry but he's pretty mature for his age and he's done fine.
When I was little, the cut off was December 31 - I preferred that.

Our district (in a Chicago suburb) is September 1. I think most of Illinois is September 1. Our eldest will have his 5th birthday one week and start kindergarten the next. My husband had a similar experience. We think that our LO is ready for kindergarten, so him being the youngest isn't too much of a worry.

I'm in a NY suburb area as well and our district is 12/31. Both my girls are Dec babies.

I'm in MO. Aug 1 cut off. My oldests bdays is Aug 1. We are hoping to send her to a charter school in our neighborhood. It's a lottery to get in. Their cut-off is sept 1 so we are going to try right after she turns 5. If she doesn't get in, we will likely try again the following year.

@StrawberryBee: is it 2 sessions for the half day, a morning one and an afternoon one?

Dallas Texas is September 1 (5 for kinder)
All of the big private schools follow this too, to align with the public schools.
Our daycare follows this cutoff pretty strictly, so that the kids are tracked into the right year from the beginning.
DS is a September birthday, so he is entering 2's even though he will turn 3 immediately after school starts. He has a classmate who is still 1 (she turns 2 mid-July). At this age, there is a pretty huge difference between them, but I know the gap will narrow.

Philly suburbs, Sept 1. DD is a June baby and will be starting K in September as one of the younger in her class but I do think she is ready.

@katsupgirl: yes. Morning is 8:30 to 11:18 a.m. and afternoon is 12:12 to 3:00 p.m. according to an old schedule I found online.
@mamabolt: we're probably close to each other! We're in NPSD.

Sept 1 here (MA). I go back and forth on this because my kids are Oct and Nov bdays, so they will be among the oldest, which definitely has benefits. However, LO1 is 3.5 and is already starting to read and write, but she isn't eligible to start K for 2.5 years, which seems insane to me. Luckily, we live in a city which offers a Jr K program, so she will be able to start that program in a little over a year.

I'm in AB Canada. Where we are you have to be 4 on March 1 to register for Kindergarten in September.
DS missed that cut off this year by three weeks. He will be 5.5 when he starts.
