I take such pride in DDs dental health, we brush twice a day and floss every night. The only one thing is we skipped a dental visit during the time I had DS. Today we went in for routine cleaning and I pointed out a small spot on her premolar that I was concerned about. The dentist said she wasnt too worried about that just yet BUT on her upper molar a whole chunk of tooth is missing?! I dont know how I didnt see it, it must have chipped/broken off. The dentist said its because her teeth enamel just formed weakly and its nothing we did wrong but I feel horrible that she needs to get a silver cap on it. She is just 5! 
please tell me some good stories about silver caps on little kiddos.

My daughter had one placed when she was about 4. Not a lot we could do about it by that point.
Hers in on a bottom molar so you can see it sometimes when she opens her mouth or smiles really big. If it were on the top I'm sure we would never notice. Even with fillings there is concern of more cavities so with the crown its kinda nice to just not have to worry about it until the tooth falls out. She's supposed to be careful about eating anything too sticky. I know I pulled a crown off as a kid eating a tootsie roll. We have just made sure to tell her that if it does come off its ok, she just needs to save it so the dentist can put it back on. Not throw it out in the bushes like I did (whoops sorry mom and dad). The dentist called it her princess crown.

@T.H.O.U.: yes our dentist called it the same thing too. How was the actual experience of getting it placed for your daughter, did they give her laughing gas?

@Mrsbells: Yes. Our first dentist/cavity filling did not go well but she was closer to age 3. We switched and the next dentist did a great job and she has even gone back to him several times with no fears.

I was not perfect, but for sure not negligent or awful with my first daughter's dental care - and she had 10 cavities at 4! I was shocked, but several friends reported the same thing, despite good dental hygiene. She has two silver caps, and now I notice them on kids everywhere. I was pretty unhappy at first, but I got over it. She never cared.

@sarac: Thanks for sharing. She got the cap on today and it went well. she is very proud of it and tries to show everyone, thankfully because its at the top back, its super hard to see even if you are looking for it
