I'm not looking to start a debate about what's wrong or right on an invitation...
A friend is doing a sip and see for her 4th child in September. She wants to put wording saying she would prefer gift cards for gifts, not physical items since they have so much stuff.
Any sentence ideas?

If there aren't a lot of people invited, maybe she can just call and tell them that she'd prefer cards?
Though in my experience, there is nothing that will keep family and friends from buying baby clothes and toys, even when it's painfully obvious there is nowhere to put them.

I always think just something about your presense is present enough is cute. That would rule out gift cards, though.

I probably wouldn't say anything and then return what she can and if anyone asks tell them gift cards

One idea I saw was that as a "fun" game, they stated on the invitation that gift cards receive one raffle ticket, and there was a prize. So that kind of "hints" at the idea of gift cards preferred.

@ms.line: @babycanuck: I do think Number Four Needs No More is super cute. But if I received this phrase with the follow up my initial thought would be "Then why do you need gift cards?". What about making it a diaper shower? That's what we've done for subsequent babies thay my friends have had since all babies need diapers.

I would just put a small asterisk note on the bottom or back of the invitation that reads "Number 4 has everything he/she needs and no gifts are necessary, but if you would like to express your generosity, gift cards to go towards diapers would be very useful. Thank you!"

This happened to me when I got married. I insisted that I didn't want a shower or physical gifts so my MIL threw me shower with a "gift card wishing well". (She wouldn't compromise on the no shower at all part 
) she put on the invitation that there would be the wishing well.

I don't think you can mention giftcards without seeming "gift grabby." I would use the "number flu needs no more," or not say anything.

An amendment could be, "Number four needs no more. If you insist, gift cards are our only wish." Or something. That way it sounds like you aren't gift grabbing as much, but the guests are insisting. I got it as close to rhyming as possible.

I think every baby deserves to be celebrated, so I would simply do a registry at a place like Babies R Us or Target, and put gift cards of all denominations on there. Then do those registry inserts along with the invitation.
If people don't like it, they don't have to purchase a gift card.
