E started being fussy during BFing the last couple weeks. She'll eat for a few minutes, then start crying -- really hard. It's not every time, but it has increased in frequency lately. She's fine when she takes a bottle. (She is 7 weeks old.)

Then yesterday I noticed what looked like a little sore or ulcer on the roof of her mouth, kind of far back. It's flat and whitish with what looks to be an indentation in the middle.

We went to the doctor today and she ruled out reflux and agreed with me that the sore was unusual but said she didn't really know what it was! She even consulted with another doctor who wasn't sure either. She said maybe it's thrush, but E doesn't have any whitish patches anywhere else (tongue and inside of cheeks are totally normal) and I don't have any symptoms either.

She gave us a prescription for nystatin and said to try it out and see if it gets better.... but I'm hesitant to put her on a medication if she doesn't really need it. I tried changing BFing positions to see if maybe something else doesn't aggravate it as much, but it works sometimes, not always.

At this point I am trying to BF her as much as possible, but if she's really fighting it, we'll give her a bottle of pumped milk since that doesn't seem to bother her.

Anyone else have a kid with this kind of symptom? If so, what did it turn out to be and how did you fix it? She seems to be in so much pain and it is so heartbreaking Oh, and her weight gain is totally fine so she IS eating even though it takes a while to get her settled.
