I can't even believe we are here, but our babies will be 1 so soon! Have you started thinking about how you will celebrate? Are you having a party? Doing something different? Do share!

We have an April baby, and we are not having a big party-the logistics and family drama would take the fun right out of it. Not sure what we will do instead on the day of. I am thinking of sending a first birthday card to out of town relatives in the style of a birthday chalkboard. I just have to find one that I like and see if I can get it customized to the right size. I'd also like to do family pictures, but I haven't thought much about that yet, either.
I am a little sad about the party, but really, it is for the best. I want to hear about everyone else, though!

I can't even wrap my brain around how our babies are almost 1! E is so close to walking and is constantly saying Mama and Dada.
We are having a couple of small family celebrations, it just depends who is in town with our families and when. Lots of pie, since E is a PI Day baby. I got some ridiculous PI Day shirts for all of us to wear

It sort of hit me today that Fiona will be one in 4 short months!! So crazy. I mean that's not a super short amount of time, but we've sort of been counting down days until my husband graduates from school and then realized that "just one more semester" = 3 months = holy shit our kid will be like almost a year old then!
Anyways haha.
I have no idea what we are going to do. I definitely want to have a party but I don't know if it will be just a small thing for grandparents/our siblings or if we will invite our friends too. I think it may depend on what/if anything my DH wants to do for his graduation. I'm feeling like it is sort of a big deal because he's been going to night school while working full time 2.5 years and worked SO hard I want to celebrate him. So if he wants to have some sort of graduation party I think we'll maybe do that with our friends then throw just a small family party for LO's 1st bday
Also if I do a bigger party and we have a theme... would it be weird to have a corgi theme? lol
What are you doing?

@lemondrop: that is spectacular. PI day FTW.
Also, can our babies get their Mamas sleep for their birthdays? Pretty puh-lease?

@Mae: please have a corgi theme. Or, she could be the Queen and Stew can be himself. The Queen has corgis. If we were doing a theme, I promise it would be Llama Llama Red Pajama.
I don't know what to do. My in laws can't stand to be in the same room as one another, and if we just do my family, people will be crazy offended. Plus, everyone is out of town. We've been toying with going up to Toronto for the day to go to the aquarium or museum. I made DH take off work. So not sure.
PS- your new picture is 100% amazing. And so is your DH!

@LovelyPlum: oo how funny would it be to have it be like a british royal theme?! I could put her in a tiny white wig and get her a tiara.... lol. oh man, can of worms is opened
That is so hard about your inlaws, ugh! Adults that can't act like it need to be put in time out. My inlaws used to be like that because my DH's sister hadn't spoken to her dad for several years (drama between sister/mom v. dad). To the point where DH's dad's family left her stranded at the detroit airport and my DH had to drive from columbus ohio (4 hrs) to pick her up. Thank God when DH and I got engaged the sister decided to mend things so that our wedding wouldn't be awful and now all the adults are cordial. Do you think it is likely they'd all come? Like just invite them all, but tell them all they are all invited and hope your inlaws opt out?

I think J is technically a spring baby? If his CI surgery happens as planned right after his birthday, I don't think we'd want to risk exposing him to anything and potentially moving back his surgery date. So we need to think about how to handle this especially since 1st birthdays are such a big deal in Korean culture!

@LovelyPlum: That has to be so hard with your IL situation. Inviting them both sounds like one way to be equal if not fair, and they can do what they want to do. Of course not inviting any of them is another way to make your life easier!

@Mae: Wow, why am I just now making the connection that it was you who had the corgi in all of your bump photos? I loved seeing you guys! Please have a corgi theme!

@spaniellove: lol yep that's me! And now Fiona is as obsessed with Stew as Stew is with me. He is her most favoritest thing EVER.

@LovelyPlum: I am excited to hear about all the spring babies! Thanks for starting this thread. Bummer about the party. Family can be so complicated at times. But I'm sure you can find something memorable to do. We took T to the aquarium as his Christmas present and it was so fun!
T loves Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. So I'm going to make that the theme of our party.. I plan to just have the grandparents + our siblings and their kids over for sandwiches and cake. And I want to bake & decorate the cakes and hang up monthly pics. There will be like 10 guests probably but we need a celebration!

@lemondrop: PI celebration sounds like fun!
@Mae: that pic is just adorable!
@spaniellove: is there any way you could do a belated bday party once LO has recovered from surgery?
eggplant / 11408 posts
@spaniellove: @Mae: with my luck, they'd all come. What a PITA.
@jhd: I that theme. So fun! And I think she would adore the aquarium. Glad to hear that T loved it!
@spaniellove: hmm, I'm not sure what I would do about timing. Exciting about having a time frame for surgery, though! Will you do a doljabi?

Bumping - how is everyone doing with the parties? I know @LovelyPlum: your LO is turning 1 very very soon! I can't believe it! What did you decide to do?
I think we're going to fly out to CA a month early to have a small dol with my side of the family. We thought briefly about having another party here for DH's family but decided against making the effort for them. It just leaves me so little time to plan b/c I have no ideas so far!

So so close!!! My dh has bigger things in mind than me, but we will have a party of some sort. My sister is getting married like 2 weeks before so I haven't been able to plan like crazy ( which is probably for the better)
If you're doing a party, are you theming it at all? I was thinking Mickey mouse or big block because C is obsessed.
Also... First bday gifts? What do you all have in mind. I want to get him a teepee, but wonder if it's too early.... He is walking and loves to hide under stuff so I thought it would be fun for him.

@LovelyPlum: We had the same situation with the in laws and just decided not to do anything (except for a little party with just the three of us). Let me know if you figure out how to navigate it!

@LovelyPlum: there are tons of great museums right in town! Or the zoo is close to you.

@spaniellove: Thanks for bumping! I'm excited you will get to celebrate with family. What are you going to choose for his dol?
@lemondrop: Two weeks?! Just HOW???
So I have not figured this out really, except that my parents are super disappointed at the idea of no party. So, I guess we are going down to see them at some point and have something small.
@raintreebee: Ugh, I hate that you are in this situation, too. I will not have their stupid antics ruin birthdays forever, but I really haven't figured it out yet.
@regberadaisy: We may visit the Curious George exhibit! It looks fun
@jill_a55: So, presents: I think we are getting her a play kitchen and a learning tower. She got a tent for Christmas and rather loves it. I say, go for it

@LovelyPlum: Ugh, bummer a out the family situation. We have big families that are all out of town, so we are inviting about 60 people but I have no idea how many to expect. I'm sort of hoping it ends up small with just some family and out friends in town, but we'll just have to see it. People may surprise us and decide to travel for the party?
Just this week I nailed down some details. We had wanted to do it small at a restaurant (with booze, at DH's request, haha) but finally decided we had to invite everyone and were not about to pay for up to 60 people at a nice restaurant. So we booked a park district facility that we attended a birthday at recently. There's a play gym with mats, slides, balls, etc. We decided to go with a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom/alphabet theme since "A and B are turning 1". I'm outrageously excited about that, haha.

@twodoghouse: oh I love that theme! That's one of T's favorite books. that will be too cute
@LovelyPlum: I really want to get T a play kitchen. Have you decided which one you want? I can't make up my mind!
@spaniellove: I'm glad you have plans to celebrate with your family
