@Mrs. Champagne: thanks! My head has been feeling better. The doctors don't want me up too much because it can make the leak worse.

It is hard not be down at his bed side but I am sitting still waiting for my next dose of medicine before I go down.

The out pouring of love and support from this community really make me feel good.

I am hoping when we go back down that I will get to hold E. My nurse wants me to keep my butt in bed to help my spinal headache. I compromised and said I will wait until after dinner to go down. Which means I have to wait until after shift change, I guess it isn't a big deal because I can pretty much go whenever I want. I am itching to hold that little guy.

Side note, when you go home steal that beanbag thing they have on his back, they are awesome at holding pacifiers in

@beaker: the nurse made sure to tell me that Fredrick the frog comes home with us.

We haven't got to hold him yet. He doesn't love change but he is adjusting slowly. He was resting very well in his isolate. I told the nurse that I really hoped that she had a very boring night. She agreed as well. She thinks he is really adorable. We learned that he is the youngest gestation wise. He isn't the littlest one tho.

Apparently when they put him back in the isolate he didn't settle back down well. I have a feeling that it was because he went from laying on my chest to being laid on his back. He prefers to lay and sleep on his tummy. Period. For now he is only allowed out of the isolate once a shift ( which means 2 times a day). I am hoping that he will settle down better this next time.

I am being discharged off the mother/ baby unit today but they are setting me up in a family set down room so I can stay at the hospital to stay close to Elliot. I may go home for a bit this evening, mostly just to recharge and see my dog.

My FIL is coming to visit for the weekend, so I will have help with N. Everyone else has to work Saturday so I need a little more help.

Again I just want to say thank you so much everyone for all the continued thoughts and prayers for ours little family. It is so touching to know that we aren't alone in things.

@MrsRcCar: So glad you got to hold him and that he's progressing through his goals. Hopefully, he'll start transitioning better. We tried to leave Finn in the isolate as much as we could because he had body temp issues, but it's soooo hard!

  31. MrsRcCar

    grapefruit / 4712 posts

@Mrs. Blue: He apparently didn't stat well and stayed all freaked out until they flipped him over on his tummy. Once he was on his tummy it was like he "melted" into the bed. He was extremely pleased after that.

@MrsRcCar: Haha! My boys LOVE tummy sleeping, too. It took a bit after we came home to convince them to sleep on their backs.

  34. Mrs. Tiger

    blogger / pomegranate / 3044 posts

@MrsRcCar: awww love the pic! Of course he preferred sleeping on mommy! In our NICU they just made the babies sleep on their backs when they're in an open crib, hopefully yours is the same so little man can be as comfy as possible! Does he still have the cannula?

  35. MrsRcCar

    grapefruit / 4712 posts

@beaker: yes he does have a cannula. He will be keeping it for a little while. He is also on TPN fluids and lipids. When I was just down there they had upped his feedings to 15 ml. They said when he reaches 56 ml that they will drop TPN and lipids. Plus he is still on antibiotics until Sunday evening. The CNP said that he would get out Thursday if everything goes perfect from here on out. I was hoping he would get out sooner.

I am still conflicted because I am still leaving without my baby.

  36. Mrs. Tiger

    blogger / pomegranate / 3044 posts

@MrsRcCar: I hope everything goes according to plan. It is so hard to leave before your baby, I'm sorry he has to stay longer. Are they weaning him slowly off the cannula or is the plan for him to go home with it? DS2 was on and off a cannula several times. Please absolutely ignore these questions if you want. Really I just want you to feel supported, let me know if there's anything I can do.

So glad you got to hold him! You both look beautiful. I hope that things continue to look better each day

  38. MrsRcCar

    grapefruit / 4712 posts

@beaker: the plan isn't to wean him right now from the oxygen but who knows. I am hoping that he comes home free of anything extra but I would be ok with oxygen and o2 stat monitor.

Part of me wants me to go home because I miss my house and bed and toddler. I talked with the nurses in special care about being discharged and I know that he will be ok if I am here or not. I also know that he has at least 2 days worth of feedings stored on the unit. I am very pleased with that.

Tonight after FIL gets in we will be coming up for him to see E. The special care nursery doesn't have visitor hours so we can come and go as long as it isn't shift change. This also makes me feel better.

Thank any of you ladies who have supported us through this. It helps me so much to be able to put it all out there.

@MrsRcCar: so glad he's doing better! Hang in there mama, this is a tough time but he will soon happy and snug at home. You said hopefully Thursday at the earliest? If he's got feeds running are they letting you breastfeed too? Hope everything goes smoothly over the next few days and he can wean off the oxygen

  40. Mrs. Tiger

    blogger / pomegranate / 3044 posts

@MrsRcCar: I also had mixed feelings about being discharged, part of me was so anxious to get away, and part wanted to stay by his side the whole time. Hope things are looking good for your little man this morning.
