@SugarplumsMom: We will probably start an allowance around age 5 too - in a year.... At this point I feel like quarters would work....he likes to use quarters to ride the merry-go-round and other mechanical 'rides' at the mall & grocery store so quarters hold an actual, useful value for him... I will probably do 4 quarters for some small chores during the week, and maybe one or two bigger things on the weekends... And I'm thinking when we start we may do something like a multi-option piggy bank to "USE" "SAVE" "DONATE". Then we'll be sure to show him how that money saved in different ways, works.
