But only if it had a good outcome.
I'm 6 weeks along and had brown spotting this morning after using the bathroom. I know brown is better than red but my imagination isn't listening.

I had some of that, and my OB said it was caused by 'burrowing' i.e., continued implantation. I also had a little bit from having an irritated cervix.
Thinking of you! I think brown spotting is pretty common

You are fine! I had some breakthrough bleeding around 6 weeks - had it checked out and they couldn't figure out why. It went away after a few days. Pelvic rest for a while was the only thing they prescribed.
Try not to stress about it too much - which I definitely realize is much easier to say than do. Hugs!!!

I had this over the weekend, like two drops of brown. Everyone told me it's totally fine! I love @grizz's explanation of "burrowing." I'm going to think of my little babe doing that!

I didn't have any spotting at all with my first and it seems that anything "different" with this pregnancy sends me into a tailspin.
Thanks for your support ladies.

I spotted a lot during my 1st pregnancy and everything turned out fine. If you are worried, you can call your OB and request an US. I wouldn't worry unless the spotting was heavy, bright red and accompanied by cramps.

@oliviaoblivia: I haven't had any spotting (yet) with #2, but I had spotting around 7 weeks for #1 that lasted a couple days. I ended up having to get the rhogam shot because I'm RH-negative, just to be on the safe side. So if you're RH-negative, you might want to call your OB. But otherwise, you're fine!
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Adira: I am RH neg, but so is DH so no worries there.
@littlek: I would, but I don't get transferred to my OB for care until 10 weeks and my regular doc is on vacation. I have an appt on Tuesday. Hopefully I can hold out until then.

I had brown spotting on and off with L for the first 8 weeks. It freaked me out because I had already had a miscarriage and an ectopic, but everything turned out fine!!

I bled and spotted brown, pink, red throughout my first, second and third trimester. My happy outcome is napping in his crib right now
My friend who is pregnant with her third child has spotting with this pregnancy, and never had it with her other 2. She's in the second trimester now.
Hope all is well! If you're worried, don't hesitate to call your OB

I had zero spotting with #1 and #2, and light brown spotting on and off from 4 weeks to 11 weeks with #3. It was a low-lying placenta that resolved itself, which it seems is pretty common.
Hang in there, I know it is so scary.

I had quite a few bleeding episodes with this baby (in the 1st tri), but none with my first. Come to find out, I had a low lying placenta in the beginning. I am 34 weeks now and all is looking good! Sending positive vibes your way

I spotted (all brown, but a lot) from 7-10 weeks with DD. The spotting started shortly after my first appointment, when they did an STD test (very similar to a pap). I had an u/s to make sure everything was okay, and the MW told me that she thought the spotting was from cervical irritation from the STD test. Apparently a pregnant cervix is really swollen and blood-filled - the slightest thing (BD, exercise, touching it) can make it "irritable."

@oliviaoblivia: I've had bleeding off and on throughout this entire pregnancy. I'm 22w. The spotting started in week 4 of my pregnancy.
I had a SCH that corrected itself, placenta previa that also corrected itself, and I've been dealing with a friable cervix on top of that the entire time. I had a friable cervix with C, too.
I've been on pelvic rest or modified bed rest the entire time.

I had so much spotting, I thought I got my period. It wasn't until days later when when I wanted to test out the new wonfos I got in the mail that I had a BFP. Surprising, so say the least. I saw the doc at 8 weeks and was put on pelvic rest. Also got to have an ultrasound at every visit until the end of the 1st trimester. I would have preferred no spotting and no ultrasounds, but silver lining, right?
All that to say - I had lots of spotting (even bright red at one point) and a healthy baby.

I feel like I'm the only one of my IRL friends who did not spot in the 1st tri... seems super duper common. Also I had a low-lying placenta in the beginning and was warned that could cause spotting. So I think there are lots of reasons you can spot and it can be totally fine.

I had a lot of spotting into my second trimester with LO. I had been on 200 mg of progesterone, and it was increased to 400 mg. Some was Brown, some was red, some caused by an irritable cervix, some caused by we don't know what. But my good outcome is hanging out in my arms right now
I know that you said your doc is on vacation, but can you call the office and be seen by someone else? My doctor wanted to see me for bleeding, just to make sure everything was OK.
Hugs, Mama

I spotted brown and pink off and on from four weeks to maybe 6 weeks. The first time I noticed it was the day after dtd but it continued even after self imposed pelvic rest. Everything is fine now at almost 18 weeks!
A good friend had spotting early on and her beta levels weren't even close to doubling and she has a healthy baby now. My on said at least a third of healthy pregnancies have some mild spotting and things go fine.

@oliviaoblivia: one more thought, based on your earlier comment. One of my spotting episodes came after a particularly...sluggish...trip to the bathroom. Someone here told me that straining can cause spotting sometimes, since you are working those muscles when you go. Just a thought.

I had brown spotting at 6 weeks with this pregnancy - my doctor said it was normal. Now I'm almost 30 weeks.

@oliviaoblivia: I had brown spotting off and on from 11dpo til 8-9 weeks. Obviously M turned out ok!

with this pregnancy brown/red spotting started at 5.5 weeks and continued entire first tri with a climatic bleeding ER episode at 14 weeks. Nothing since - now 30 weeks.

@oliviaoblivia: I had spotting the day after my bfp (so around 4 weeks), then nothing for a week, then about 7-10 days of mostly brown spotting (but a few episodes of redder) during week 5-6ish. I was so paranoid - I took a weeks estimator test EVERY DAY until I had an OB appointment. (Hi, I'm a crazy person. Also this was over Christmas, couldn't get an appointment because I was out of town, and I was staying with my ILs, so I had to maintain my sanity somehow.)
When I finally got into my OB for an appointment, they couldn't find any real source - no SCH - besides a somewhat friable cervix. Everything looked fine. I have had maybe two isolated spotting incidents since then - both in the first trimester, both just when I wiped, following sex or a "challenging" bathroom trip. I'm now 24+2 and everything is fine now!
Try not to worry - and try to stay off Google if you can! thinking good thoughts for you

I had spotting my first trimester up until about 10 weeks. It was in my mucous, and underwear. Like streaks of pinkish brown lines in the mucous or a drop of pinkish brown blood in my underwear. It was every few days. I went in for an early US (demanded it really) and we were able to see the babe's HB and they checked and made sure my cervix was closed. I refused a new Pap Smear, and only did one more intervaginal US. Healthy babe!

Ugh. Still spotting. Still brown.
Called the nurse who said it's probably fine. Let me know if in 48 hours you're still bleeding.
Didn't make me feel better.

@oliviaoblivia: me! I spotted a ton, starting from the day after I got my bfp (so probably around 11 dpo?). Sometimes it was brown, sometimes red, heavier at times, sometimes even accompanied by cramps. It was such a scary and stressful experience. I has betas and ultrasounds done- they never could figure out what was causing it (dr just said it was a friable cervix). It was basically like this throughout the entire first trimester.
Happy ending, though - that 2yo is now sleeping upstairs, after keeping up for half the night just because she wanted "mommy song." Siiiiigh. hang in there, and pls try not to worry too much (I know, MUCH easier said than done). I've realized now that spotting during pregnancy is super common and does not always mean a negative outcome. Hugs.

I spotted brown and peach-ish colored for a couple of days around 6 weeks. We were out of the country and it scared the poop out of me. I thought I was miscarrying. BUT I got home a couple days later and we did the ultrasound and everything was great. Just "burrowing" as others have said. I spotted again for a day after doing some yoga at 9 weeks. Then I didn't spot again after that for the rest of the pregnancy. HTH Best wishes!

We went to NYC and I did a lot of walking, and we had sex. The next morning had some dark blood.

I had red spotting at 6 weeks & 8 weeks & there was absolutely nothing wrong at all. I now have a happy almost 8 month old crawling around my house & testing out all the different shrieking sounds she can make. Mine was also accompanied by cramping. I am sure everything is okay. Hugs!

@oliviaoblivia: I spotted off and on for my entire pregnancy with M. Sometimes red, sometimes pink, sometimes brown. I had a low lying placenta early on, and I apparently have a sensitive cervix. Despite a very drama filled prengnancy she was born healthy and happy at 40+1. As long as the bleeding isn't heavy and it's not accompanied by cramping try not to worry too much (I know that's hard!)
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
I had bright red spotting at about 5 weeks with baby # 1 and he's currently napping. I'm just about 32 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and I had brown/pink/red spotting from weeks 10-14, and no one was e Ed able to give me a reason.
Try not to worry mama, though I know it's incredibly hard. I hope it stops soon.

@oliviaoblivia: I had brown spotting right after I got my BFP. Also brown/pink tinged discharge around 6 weeks. It freaked me out. Dr said this was normal. I am currently 10 weeks and saw happy bb on the u/s this AM at Dr office.
With my first mc at 6 weeks I had bright red blood and cramping/stabbing pain. FX and hugs to you

Also wanted to add that I had LOTS of cramping too and it was all normal.

I started spotting brown at about 5-6 weeks and that progressed to bright red with small clots at times. It would go between brown and red. I got an emergency ultrasound at 6ish weeks and was found to have a small subchorionic hemorrhage. It resolved by my next US about a week or two later but I kept bleeding. Baby looked great though. It suddenly stopped at around 10 weeks with modified bed rest. I'm almost 16 weeks now and everything looks great. Baby is so far a healthy girl
ETA I was even able to return to my job as a hospital nurse a few weeks ago with no problems aside from the regular pains of nursing while pregnant! I just make sure to not lift any patients or anything else heavy.
