I have the hugest urge to go out and buy something pregnancy related but I have no clue where to start or what to get!
What is one of the first things you purchased when pregnant? Was it baby related or pregnancy related? If you were me what would you get? Is there anything that I Must have?
Oh and I already got a names book but it feels to early for that.

Get the Mayo Clinic's Guide to Pregnancy. I bought it recently and it's absolutely fantastic. It's also good for those TTC. It shows you month by month and week by week what you'll experience and then goes into what happens after birth.

I bought belly bands! then nursing bras. then some maternity tops. I started wearing loose clothes as soon as I found out I was pregnant

I read Belly Laughs as well. I also bought maternity bras - what a lifesaver! I didn't buy anything for the baby until towards the end of the second tri.

Umm I'm not pregnant yet, but have a baby bin! Things I tripped over on clearance (for me or if I need a gift for a friend), and when we started ttc, ive slowly been stocking up on cloth diapers

I really haven't bought anything since finding out I'm pregnant. I bought DH a "binary" dad shirt for when we announce and an "OMG Pwnies" bib from ThinkGeek when I bought his Christmas present.
I'm so superstitious that I won't buy anything pregnancy related for myself until we see a heartbeat and know that this pregnancy is going to stick. I'm keeping in the mindset of getting through the first trimester and then buying stuff.

@sorrycharlie: I did that before I got pregnant. I've got quite the stash. Being pregnant, I just the baby to stick, so I'm not buying anything. I could really use some SeaBands or something since the nausea has picked up right before the 7 week mark.

I second the "Mayo Clinic Guide to Pregnancy". It's my go-to book for reading what's going on with the babies (and me) week by week. It's a pretty good objective source of info.
I also recommend the book "A Child is Born" by Lennart Nilsson. It's AMAZING in utero photography. I haven't read much of it, but seeing what the babies really look like at each stage of development is just breathtaking.
I'd say these two books really helped me feel connected to the pregnancy in the first few weeks when I was so worried.

@MerryC: So the Mayo Clinic guide book put your mind at ease early on? I'm a huge worrier right now so early in the pregnancy. I just want it to be successful, but fear the scary stuff. I may get the book after hearing that.

I'm not pregnant yet, but I've definitely signed up for Zulily and researched on a ton of cloth diaper websites. Those are the sales that I'm really tempted to start a stash... but I've resisted. I think once we are pregnant, I will focus on maternity needs the first trimester and baby needs the second/third trim.

We bought 2 books – Girlfriend’s Guide to Pregnancy and The Pregnancy Book by Dr. Sears. I don’t like the Dr. Sears one at all (it’s very old fashioned (out of date IMO) - like the concept of your husband cooking YOU dinner when you are sick is a foreign concept to the author, instead he offers tips on how YOU can make it easier on your husband by preparing frozen meals ahead of time).
I also bought some special oils and creams early since my skin got super itchy right away, and a few maternity pieces (dresses) that I found on ebay at a great price.
The only baby related items I've purchased (at 18 weeks now), are some cute outfits and a small toy.

@cascadecherub: Well honestly, no book is going to make us feel completely reassured But it has features like a checklist for each month for when/if to call the doctor....like if a symptom requires calling immediately, same day, or next visit. And it has a lot of info on the mom, in addition to the babies. Like possible symptoms and how to manage them, nutrition, tests and appts, and your emotional state. I think a lot of that gave me good info to focus on and think about, instead of just worrying that my babies were in trouble because I wasn't barfing my guts out. H&H 9!

@MerryC: Interesting. I'm 7 weeks tomorrow. I'm so worried. I just need to get to our 8 week appointment and hopefully a heartbeat to know that we're on track. It's so out of my control right now. It freaks me out. I guess I'm big on needing reassurance that the baby's doing a-okay in there and growing.

I just remembered another early pregnancy tool - meditation tracks. I used meditation tracks from the website Health Journeys when I was trying to conceive and it reduced my anxiety. I listened to them on my mp3 player when I was falling asleep. Here's a link to some free tracks:
