Anyone have this done or planning on eventually doing it?
I am pretty sure DH and I will be done after 2 babies. I am not sure if this is something I should request have done right away when baby #2 is born or if I should wait a few years and maybe get an IUD inserted for the time being.
I honestly haven't looked into either. So i figured I would come to the HB boards first.

If i have a c-section for #3, I figured I'd have my tubes tied while they've got me open. Not sure if that's real helpful for you....it'd probably depend on the kind of birth I have.

I figure if I have a c-section with my last baby, then I will have it done, if not, DH will be getting snipped!
My MIL had her tubes tied, I'm not sure why. It just seems like such a major surgery when compared to a vasectomy!

I'm looking into having mine done with this delivery even though it's likely I'll have a vaginal birth. It's done with a small incision right under the belly button and done within 24 to 36 hours of birth.
I'm debating on that or another IUD. I know for sure we don't want anymore it's just deciding how I want to go about preventing it.

@JustlikeHeaven: If you have a c-section, they can easily do it while they're in there... if you have a vaginal birth, I'd get an IUD for the time being. It's soo permanent - are you absolutely sure you're done after #2? Tubal ligation reversal isn't very successful.

@blackbird: Thank you for your input I'm hoping I don't have to have a C-Section (I didn't the first time around.)
@sslm: DH is so adamant that he will not have it done - its annoying! I really do not want to be on birth control for the rest of my life!
@Pumpkinspice: So you don't necessarily have to have a C-section for them to do it right then and there quickly?! If thats the case then I am going for it.

@JustlikeHeaven: My DH is exactly the same, I suspect that is what his dad was like too. Unlike his mom, I won't be giving in, lol. I'll report back in 10 years... but I hope to convince him that I went through the birth of 2 or 3 kids, it's the least he could do, right?

@QBbride: I am pretty positive we are done. Especially because our kids will be 14 months apart... however there is a small side of me that is like .... but what if I change my mind in 5 years!?!
Even if that small side is only like 5% I probably should go for an IUD.

@JustlikeHeaven: You absolutely do NOT have to have a Csection to have it done postpartum and while still in the hospital.
But, I do agree that if you have any doubts that you may want another don't do it and go with the IUD until you are sure!

@JustlikeHeaven: yeah I think if you have any doubt at all, you should get an IUD for now. Maybe once the shock of having two kids so close together wears off, you'll feel differently. Just my opinion

My mom had it after my brother! She never got pregnant or had complications, so I think it worked well for her? lol

@Crisark: I read online you don't have to have a c-section and get it done but my dr office says they won't do it after a successful vaginal delivery. Were you able to get it done?

My plan is to have it done after my third c section. I'm already open anyway! I haven't really given thought to what to do if there is no 3rd baby. I was going to say, I'll keep taking my bc pills, but honestly I'm not as good about taking them now. I tend to forget. I should rethink that!
I have a coworker who had it done after a vaginal birth, but that was 10+ years ago.

@Mamasig: Little miss was breech until 30 weeks and I thought I may end up with a c-section and while it wasn't what I planned it'd have made this easier. I asked my midwife friday and she said we'd discuss it at my 6 week postpartum appt, I'm kind of wondering if it's because I don't plan to have pain meds again. Who knows lol?

If you are 100% done then go for it. If even a small part of you is unsure of being done with having kids then go with the IUD.

I am 6 months PP and while I am not 100% done, we cannot/should not get pregnant natrually because of a chromosomal abnormality I have. We need to do IVF w/PGD but I am terrified of getting pregnant naturally again by mistake and having another miscarriage, still birth or severely disabled child with a very short life expectancy. So I am strongly considering tubal ligation soon. I need to decide if I want to wing it until I'm ready for ivf again (like a year) or just get it over with now because I'm scared.

@jetsa: well then go for it. My mom got the tubal done the day after her last vaginal birth.

I've briefly considered it because if we ever changed our minds later, we could still do IVF, and my OB told us that vasectomies aren't as reversible as people believe, and we should view a vasectomy as permanent sterilization.
On the other hand, my mom's tubal has caused her excruciating ovulation ever since, and an ovarian cyst that burst, when I was a kid.
Pretty sure we'll opt for the snip, sometime soonish.

I had mine tied with my last c-section. I knew I didn't want any more biological children. I 100% knew if we were going to grow our family again I would adopt so there was no question in my mind.
I have not regretted it although there was a few moments right after where I thought "wow I will never be able to be pregnant again." I also struggled a bit because of my difficulties with IF before my kids. It seemed so odd that I had struggled for so long to get pregnant that I would permanently sterilize myself but I still absolutely knew I was done.

@jetsa: sorry for the slow response. No, I didn't get it done. I went with another IUD and its been the right choice even though we are done having kids.
