Ugg. I'm sorry. My first has two bad falls. The first around 7 months and the second around 2. I was told to watch for signs of concussion and to bring them in if they seemed off at all. I'd probably call your after hours pediatrician line, but she's likely fine

With head injuries, my ped told me it was only serious if these symptoms were present:
- Fluid leaking from nose or ears
- Pupils unresponsive to light or unequal size
- Unable to be comforted
- Wobbly and off-balanced walking or crawling (more wobbly than normal)
- Vomiting
- Confusion
- Fever
- Temporary loss of consciousness (duh?)

Ugh, I'm sorry! Since she's acting normal, she seems fine - and good thing you have a doctor's appointment anyway!

Both of my kids have fallen off our very tall bed (3 feet at least). DS fell off twice, both times while goofing around right in front of DH. Luckily he landed on a laundry hamper both times, so he was just a little scared.

DD on the other hand... she was such a bad sleeper that at one point I tried co-sleeping. That went fine for a couple of months, and then one night I was so exhausted I hadn't realized she was on the wrong side of the bed. And then, thud and scream Poor kid! She landed right on the hard wood floor, and must have hit a crib leg on the way down, because she had a ginormous bruise down the side of her face. I kept her awake for a while after that (not that she was trying to sleep...) and once she calmed down she was acting totally normal. So, no ER. But of course I felt like the worst mom ever, she had that bruise for days, and we never co-slept again. That was way too close.

Funny thing though, she took her first steps a few days later. It's like she realized that compared to falling off a bed, tripping while walking is nothing.

Ugh I am sorry this happened! I can totally relate. DD1 roll down a flight of stairs (5 steps) when she was 1. Totally freaked out but good thing I called the ped and not rushed to the ER (in the snow too). He said babies actually protect themselves better than adults when that happens and as long as we watch her, she should be fine, and she was! Not even a bruise and also I remembered later that she didn't land on her head.

DD2 recently fell off the high back of the couch. She loves to climb it like her sister and didn't realize it was so high (we were at my parents, their couch is higher than ours) and fell down with a loud bang This time I didn't even call the peds just monitored.

@CatchAFallingStar: Exact same thing happened to my son at 5 months—rolled off a 3’ bed onto carpeting because I turned to reach for something. He is fine and sounds like your girl is too. I felt like such a sack of shit, I understand—but it’s okay I called my brother and SIL and they told me babies are tougher than they look.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Its such a terrible feeling. I was so so so careful with my first daughter... and now... with my second baby... I've dropped her a short distance off a boppy lounger I was trying to move from one spot on the floor to another, and she's also rolled off the couch. Older baby girl just threw the biggest play dough part thingy at her face last night. I'm quite literally dying all the time. I haven't taken her to the ER for any of these things. She cried and I was able to settle her down. I'm sure there were other reasons why I didn't take her to ER, but those things stand out in my mind. Go easy on yourself. We are all just moms trying to do the best for our kids. Multi-tasking is so hard to do.

ETA: When my husband watches my girls, they always end up with scrapes and bruises and marks that I can see. But when I watch them, I feel like they have brushes with death that don't leave a mark. I don't know why I'm adding this to my comment... but just don't beat yourself up. This stuff happens and hopefully we can prevent it from happening again. But if we don't, again, we are just still trying to do out best. <-- pep talk for you AND me.

@CatchAFallingStar: I hope you got reassuring news from the ped. My kid fell over my arm onto the concrete floor of the garage at ~4 mos. I was so traumatized but in the end she was fine. I called the Dr & they had me bring her in to check her out. I've never forgiven myself for not holding her closer to me while I set something else down out there.
At ~12mos she also leaned over the edge of her crib & fell out onto the carpet. I had JUST looked at the monitor & saw her holding her socks out. I heard the thud from downstairs & glanced at the monitor as I took off running upstairs to her room. She seemed fine & didn't even cry. We watched her carefully for signs of injury, but saw none.
They scare the heck out of us, but usually are just fine!
