I was in my room folding clothes and I turned my back to up date my wall calendar, I was maybe a foot from the bed when I hear a thump and the baby is on the floor at my feet crying. I feel like such a terrible mom. I'm holding her for her nap now as she wouldn't go down for it. We took her to the ped because it seemed like she was having trouble holding her head up. they sent us home after she laughed her way through the appointment. But she won't nap or roll over in her crib like she usually does. I'm such a mess right now! Please tell me she's going to be fine.

it's such a scary thing....but I'm sure she's fine. My doctor and mom friends say it's just a rite of initiation into motherhood...every kid falls off the bed at some point. I was hysterical when it happened...like I had to call in to work and say I was going to be late, and i could barely speak. Just go easy on yourself.

DH didn't get the memo that our 4 mo could roll so he put him in the middle of our bed and went quickly to run to the bathroom. DS rolled off the bed. Luckily, our bed is a platform bed so it wasn't too big of a fall. DH felt awful and still feels bad. But that was over 2 years ago and DS is perfectly fine!

She'll be fine. DS1 has fallen off the bed three times on DH's watch. They bounce back quick.

I let it happen once and I still feel like the worst mom ever. Like, when i remember it, it still makes me feel like throwing up. I was overanalyzing LO's every move for days afterward, thinking something had to be wrong, but she was totally fine. I'm sure your LO will be, too!

My little guy fell off the bed the day he started crawling. He was a little grumpy/subdued for a couple of days but he was completely fine. I felt terrible about it at the time, but now I can (almost) laugh about it.
Your LO will be fine and you're not a terrible mom!

Mine fell of the couch once too, I was soo freaked out but DH was actually the one telling me that they're sturdier than we think!

It's always so scary when this happens! I tripped up the stairs with LO in my arms when he was 2 months old and hit his head hard on our post at the top. I was a wreck, but he was screaming his head off (which is a good sign). Everything is going to be ok, and you're not a terrible mom. This happens to every one of us in some capacity.

So sorry. You're not a bad mom! My kids have both fallen off beds and couches, and the worst was when D dove head first out of his high chair and landed on his forehead. We took him to urgent care and thankfully he scored a 0 on their danger chart (above 2 they would have done a neural work up) since he was responsive, able to move appropriately, reacted immediately, no bleeding from his eyes/ears etc. Don't bear yourself up!

Thank you everyone! I'm still worried because she isn't rolling around like she usually does and is having trouble for naps. Maybe she is in some pain
But she's been smiling and laughing all day.

I once went to a conference where a doctor spoke about how babies the first year are, in her words, "big bouncy balls." It sounds awful, but it was oddly reassuring to me.

My oldest did that. He's almost 8 now and really smart, so no damage seems to have been done.
I remember the feeling though...your LO will be ok. Babies are pretty resilient.

@msplatypus: both of my boys have rolled off the bed at least 3 times. Not proud but they are just fine. My oldest rolled clean off the changing table on DH's watch. It feels awful but your Lo will be fine.

She'll be fine. Mine rolled off the bed twice, off the couch once, and off my lap while I was sitting in the glider in the nursery. I passed out from exhaustion several times in those first months, and the poor kid kept rolling off of stuff because of it. Never even gave him a bump, and twice he didn't even wake up. It's all good!

@msplatypus: I know how it feels! I used to worry I had made my LO less smart because she fell off the bed a few times... and I banged her head into a door frame more than once... but she's really smart and awesome. Babies are designed to be super resilient!

Aw, it sounds as though she's ok, especially if she's laughing and things. She's maybe not rolling like she used to just now because she got a fright last time she rolled somewhere!
But she's been smiling and laughing all day.
