K gets them zapped with liquid nitrogen at the doctor. Each one takes a few treatments, and it hurts while it's being applied. BUT it works well, and we bribe her.

+1 to the liquid nitrogen treatment!!
I had them as a kid and one thing I didn't realize is that plantar warts can be contagious! They're not highly contagious, but as a kid I used to touch them all the time and they spread on my hands until I stopped doing that.

I had warts (all on a hand) removed three ways: electrosurgery, cryotherapy, and duct tape. I tried Compound W but it didn't completely work. My preferred method would be the duct tape--painless and no scar. For me, the cryotherapy was horribly painful and swollen (for weeks), but I suspect they went too far.

This is a great thread. DD just got her first one. I assume for the duct tape she has to leave the tape on 24/7?

Soak a lil cloth in Apple cider vinegar and put a bandaid over top. Sometimes it stings for a min but if the compound w isn't bothering her the Acv Prob won't.

Ugh DS1 had the worst wart on his foot that we took him to the podiatrist for. They tried to freeze it off over several visits and it cost us thousands of dollars and was very traumatic. The doctor conceded it wasn't worth the anxiety and pain for him and recommended doing an over the counter. We ended up using an over the counter liquid you paint on and it worked with no pain, and was less than $10.

We are currently using the Dr. Scholl's salicylic acid stickers on a wart that is on DD1s foot. We tried the at-home freeze thing, but it didn't work. This seems to be taking care of it, but it's not particularly fast!

I had three plantars warts on my foot for about 5 - 8 years. I tried everything from the dr. Scholl's treatments, duct tape, I went to the doctors for multiple visits....
If it's pretty big, I'd recommend going to the doctor. I found liquid nitrogen to be the most effective treatment. The last time I was trying to get rid of them I think I went to the doctors every two weeks for 6 months. They can be really stubborn. I'm in Canada so it was free for me. The next best treatment I think would be the duct tape. But it's really important to keep the duct tape small and only cover the war. I found the duct tape was too big it would move around in my sock and I think it's spread the warts and I got more. But if you keep the duct tape small enough, I think it's the best treatment as it's painless and less maintenance. Yes you leave it on all the time, and change it once it falls off.

@T.H.O.U.: I can't remember. It was a liquid you paint on. Ended up working better than the "freezing" at the doctors office.

@T.H.O.U.: we have been doing the OTC compound W and it's doing its job. The wart isn't gone yet but we are diligent about painting it every night. I don't want to traumatize her with freezing it off and we have terrible insurance so we can't afford that anyways!

@mediagirl: Did the compound W end up working? We've been using duct tape on my 4 year old's foot for a month now without much luck. His skin is basically just irritated from the duct tape now, but the wart remains

@SeptMomma12: it did. Hers was not a planters wart, though it was just a small on on her leg. I have a planters wart right now and it is seriously stubborn. Are you doing the compound W + duct tape? That's what my derm recommended.

I've used this in the past with my LO and it works pretty well. We put a band aid every other night and it took it off within a couple of weeks. https://www.amazon.com/Compound-Wart-Remover-Step-Count/dp/B000QWLOZW/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1491411266&sr=1-2&keywords=compound+w

@mediagirl: No, our pediatrician said duct tape alone should be fine, and it seemed to be working at first but now his foot just appears irritated and the wart still there. My podiatrist said to bring him in to have it burned off, but that makes me nervous! Maybe we'll try the compound W + duct tape approach, thanks!
@Mrs. Cereal: Thanks! So you just put that on with a bandaid over it every other night, then took it off in the morning?

So the painted on stuff worked for my DD (maybe only a week or so of application).
But DS has one now on his back and the side of his head. Of course the liquid stuff at this point isn't "painting on" so we tired the dots and bandages. The one on his head is being REALLY stubborn and his skin is kinda irritated. I'm going to go back to the paint on stuff.

I've had regular warts on and off, not planters. I've tried the vinegar on cotton with non-breathable Band-Aids. That worked once but not again after. I had one burned off at the doctor's. It was really painful!
The one thing that was super easy and worked wonders recently was vitamin e. Just buy the gel capsules, prick a hole in it and rub a little on the wart a few times a day. It cleared up in a matter of weeks!
