DH & I just received a wedding invitation that says:
Doors open at 2pm
Ceremony at 3pm
Reception to follow
I've never seen a door open time before. Are we supposed to arrive by 3 or closer to 2?

Is the wedding at a church? Maybe there's someone getting married in the same place before them so there's time in between to set up so people don't walk in early?
I would say go anytime between 2-3

@babycanuck: It's at a cultural center so I guess that could be serving lunch or have another program going on prior to that.
I've never seen a problem with people arriving too early to a wedding though. I'm always running later than I planned.

@Corduroy: We had a few people arrive late for ours...but we had some not so nice extended family show up a couple of hours early to judge what we had done (they're that kind of people.). Weird, I know.

@babycanuck: that is weird and so rude. I guess this couple might be facing the same thing.
We'll aim for 2:30 so we get there by 3.

It just means don't get there before 2. I have relatives who will show up super early to events unless you specifically tell them not to get there before X time, I'm guessing they're in the same situation. There's always that one aunt who shows up hours early and then gets in everyone's way as they are trying to set everything up.

We took a lot of our pics before the ceremony and didn't want guests there too early. Maybe that's what they're doing. We didn't put it on the invite but on our wedding website.

If you are close to the couple reach out and just ask them.
Doors open sounds like they are providing refreshments and letting people know the ceremony will begin ON TIME.
