We just use plastic divided plates from Target. Either Target brand colored ones or a few character ones. LO's favorite thing right now is a "surprise plate" which basically means I bring him a plate with three or four different things on it and surprise him. Because at 2.5 if I ask him if he wants to eat X or Y he just says no even if it's his favorite food. The divided plates work well for our "surprise plates" and they easily go in the dishwasher.

My 3 year old eats off plain plastic plates- I like the ones I got at Ikea recently. We have a stack so they can sit and wait in the dishwasher. I also have a plastic placemat under it because she is still messy, and it's Frozen, so she loves it, but I just wipe that when I clear the table. I got so sick of divided plates that don't stack in each other that I threw them out when we moved!

Plastic plates made by Beaba. We just put the play on the high chair tray but she could use it at the table too.

We use the plastic divided plates from Target- they are super duper cheap so I don't care if she scratches them with her silverware. She thinks it's fun that she can have a different thing in every little compartment.

I have an easy to wipe placemat under her plate and I put a tablecloth under the placemat so if she makes an enormous mess I can just toss that in the wash rather than scrub down the whole table.

I alternative between a happy mat lookalike (silicandy) and regular dishes but I like serving her food in a bowl more often than on a plate since she's still mastering utensils I think it's easier for her.

@Tanjowen: We use the Replay ones as well - I love them! We also use their open cups and I'm debating buying some non-divided plates for things like pizza and sandwiches (DD has recently started asking to use what she calls "be careful plates" (meaning our regular, breakable plates). I guess that's what she always remembers me saying when I give her one, ha!

Happy mat or high chair tray. I have some munchkin suction cup bowls that I have started using too. I do find it annoying to wash the happy mat and high chair tray, but so much food gets thrown on the floor I can't handle plates too.
