Did anyone have issues with laundry on the second floor? Do you have specific types of machines so that it doesn't shift like crazy during the spin cycle?

2nd floor. We put cardboard underneath so it would absorb some of the shaking? It worked! I love how convenient it is to have my laundry on the same floor of our bedrooms. I wish we had a back up drain underneath the washer in case of a leak.

@HLK208: Can you run the washer/dryer during the day/night without worrying about noise?

Ours are in the basement. The beeping is annoying enough that I wouldn't want them right by the bedrooms.

2nd floor. Our washer and dryer are stacked. They do make some noise, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Basement for us, but it is just one level below the bedrooms (raised ranch style house).

Main floor (basement underneath) no issues with shaking.

Basement of our apartment building and we're on the third floor. Terrible

We have it on the bedroom level, it's awesome. They make some noise, but it's not enough to disturb anything. We have newer machines where you can turn the beeps off, which is helpful.

We have ours on the 1st floor, but we have no basement. If there was an option for one we might have placed it there. When we move to the new house the laundry room will also be on the 1st floor but we will have a basement there

Main floor and we live in a bungalow. It's right outside the bedroom and it's not loud at all. Try are made to be more quiet the lady said when we purchased them! Something about low vibration?! My dryer is going right now and I'm in bed with the door open and can't hear it!

2nd floor next to our bedroom and I love it!! They do make noise but not that much. If your machine is vibrating a lot you should make sure it's level and balanced.

Lower level. We specifically did not want laundry on the upper levels.

We had top/2nd floor in our first home and it was awesome! Our machines were quiet and it was nice not having to take the laundry too far when dirty, just had one basket for dirty clothes in there rather than in the bedrooms.
Current house (bungalow) had main floor laundry in the plans, we had it moved to the basement as we now use the would-be laundry as a mud room (connects garage into house) but left the hook ups there.
Both machines were/are HE machines (front loader old house, top this) and are pretty quiet and don't have too much movement on the spin, we didn't do anything special for the spin cycle. Only thing I wish we were able to do but builder said no (?) with the top floor ones was have a floor drain in that room heaven forbid a water accident happen.

Our laundry room is on the 2nd floor, we have front load washer and dryer with no issues with shaking or noise. Laundry room is next to the nursery.

Technically, we have a set in the basement and a set on the second floor. We built the laundry room on the second floor and it's been the greatest thing (especially since we cloth diaper). We had planned on getting rid of the old washer and dryer in the basement, but DH still likes to use them for his dirty clothes (he's a mechanic) so we can keep the upstairs one nice.

No basements in Texas. So, main floor. Our doesn't make much noise at ask which is nice. Infact you can't hear them until the timer dings. We have new front loading one's that don't really shake or vibrate at all. It's one of the things I love about our new machines.

Basement. I would love to be on the 2nd floor but afraid of accident with the washer overflowing- which happened in our old house in the basement and totally flooded the laundry room.

We have it on the second floor. We have a water catcher plastic tray thing under the washer for just in case, but that's the only modification we've made. The washer/dryer room shares a wall with L's room, and I'm able to run both while she's sleeping with no issues. Every once in a while if there's a really heavy load the washer gets a little noisy (HE washer, so it has the super crazy spin cycle), but it's not *that* bad. I run the dryer while DH and I are sleeping quite often, and I've only been woken up a handful of times, and L has never woken up from the machines.

We have a laundry room on the second floor. The little room was designed specifically for laundry, so the builder said he added in some special sub flooring thing to alleviate the noise. I don't know if this is true or not but they are quiet!

We have a stack-able washer/dryer on our 2nd floor. I love it, it's so easy to just drag the laundry down the hall instead of up and down steps. It's right next to LO's room too and she doesn't even wake up when it's on. It's a little small, since it's a stack-able but it gets the job done. We have a hookup for a big one in the basement so maybe when we have more than one kid, we'll get a bigger one but for now, this works!

Apparently Samsung makes the best vibration technology out there. Other brands may have followed suit I'm sure but I'm not sure who yet. We got a Samsung set that is on the main floor of our house and it's hardwood and the ONLY time I feel it vibrate is when I have my hands on our 60" glass dining table. That's it! Other times I don't feel a thing! My SIL has the LG set and their house layout is very similar to ours to where their washer/dryers are located and their LG set can be felt all throughout the rooms right outside of the laundry room. And it's not subtle at all... I'm SO glad we got the Samsung set!

@erwoo: That's awesome. You can definitely hear our spin cycle going.... Hate it!

I dream about a 2nd floor laundry room. It takes awhile for us to bring clean clothes up from the basement out of laziness.

Second floor, next to the nursery, wouldn't have it any other way. No hauling laundry up and down stairs. Also baby girl is a fan of white noise... She sleeps awesome with the dryer on in the background.

@Alivoo01: Yeah, it can be annoying to feel it. But at least you know when your washer is done! I used to forget and, well, thankfully it's never sat in there for too long that it started to smell. LOL! Now we live in a concrete high rise and can only hear, but barely, the washer and dryer going behind the kitchen.
