I work on a college campus and one of the worst parts about pumping for my first kiddo was the noise of my pump (Medela PISA). Since insurance will cover another pump, I'd like a double electric that is quieter and I've heard that there are some options out there that fit that bill. So those of you pumping now, would you recommend your breast pump as a quieter model?

So much quieter than my Medela. Also feels so much better on my boobs.
The lady who sits outside the privacy room at work says mine is the only one she can't hear.

I had the Spectra S9 and it wasn't quiet at all. I also have the commercial Spectra, the Dew350, and it's quieter, but still noticeable.

I have an intense job and the only way to fit in pumping while at work was to do so while on conference calls/speaking to colleagues on the phone. So a quiet pump was paramount for me. My Medela PISA was WAY too loud to get away with pumping while on a call. So I rented a Medela Symphony from the hospital ($80/mo) and my insurance said they'd cover it. I rented it for the full year post-partum that I pumped at work and I credit that pump with allowing me to BF for the full year--it's an amazing pump, super efficient and comfortable, super quiet. I just left the Symphony at work and kept my PISA at home (though I rarely needed to pump at home except when I was trying to up my supply by pumping after LO nursed).
As an aside, when I submitted the rental fees to my insurance company they denied the claim! And I hadn't gotten anything in writing from them when I called to confirm the Symphony would be covered...I just got a person on the phone who told me as long as it was rented through my hospital it would be covered. Apparently I needed a Rx from my doctor, which I didn't have. This pregnancy my doctor has said she is happy to write an Rx for a rental pump since I struggle with supply. In any case, just a heads up on that potential issue!
But honestly, though it sucked not to have the first pump rental covered by insurance, I still consider it $$ very well spent, since LO was literally the healthiest baby I've ever met in her first year, and I have to think that must have been at least in part because I was able to keep pumping for her thanks to that quiet Symphony pump!!
I tested the Symphony's quietness a few times by calling my DH or my best friend while pumping and asking them if they could hear anything - they could not. And I never had anyone mention it on any of the many many calls I pumped through - though I did use a headset instead of speaker phone, so that helped, I'm sure. Good luck!

my spectra is WAY quieter than my hygeia.

I bought a PISA with my own $ to use when traveling but had insurance pay for renting a Symphony. The Symphony was MUCH quieter and more comfortable!!!

I just stick my Pisa in a soft tote bag and throw a sweatshirt over it and you can barely hear it

My Spectra is pretty quiet. I think probably equivalent to the Spectra I use at work. I talk on the phone while pumping and I don't think people can hear it. There have been several times that I've used it at the movies - I keep it in a bag and then throw a coat over it and you really can't hear it, at all, beyond a couple feet away.
