I didn't realize how long it would take (8 mos., 1 m/c) and how emotional it could be!!!

I also didn't appreciate how perfectly you had to time BD (and how really you only have a few fertile days and that sometimes you don't know when they will be).

I thought you could buy a product that said you ovulated. Didn't realize it just tests for surge in LH hormones.

Also, like the ladies stated above, just how long it would take.

@blushink-- i feel the exact same way as you do about the whole "10 month" pregnancy thing.

My misconceptions were how long it would take and that you can/should take prenatals before you were pregnant. LOL.

I'm with everyone else — I had no idea that it could be so difficult to get pregnant, how common complications/miscarriages are, and that you *can't* get pregnant just from having unprotected sex (thanks, 6th grade health class!).

@babychin-- omg, i couldn't imagine being any of those women! one of my friends is a L&D nurse and she told me about a woman whose baby died right after birth, and there was no indication they would have any problems. i couldn't imagine being excited for the past 9+ months, getting to the hospital, and coming home without a baby

Pretty much everything you ladies have mention and more each day we research, I am so thankful for all the information available and kind of scare to realize how many complications and things can go wrong =[ We only decided this month we are going to TTC once we are together again (2 more months) So there is still time for some more research =]

Definitely didn't realize it wasn't so easy to get pregnant (cycle 5 over here)! I had no idea about CM. Noooo idea what it was or why I had it! Also, had no idea how thought consuming this whole process is.

I'm with a lot of other people on here...I had no idea that it would actually be difficult! It's silly but I guess I just thought it would happen right away and that I wouldn't have any problems.

Definitely didn't know that it would take a long time since I know so many first cyclers. I didn't know how emotional it would be when you got your period when you don't want it. I also didn't know the number of techniques out there to encourage pregnancy like baby aspirin, Instead cups, Mucinex, etc. The longer it takes, the more I find these techniques and am willing to try them. I didn't think that I would take recent pregnancy announcements so hard. Yeah, it's been a hard journey thus far. I just want my BFP and a baby in my arms in 2012.

I never know that pregnancy is calculate from the 1st day of your l ast period. That really confused me, So the 1st 2 weeks of pregnancy you arent actually pregnant at all. I still dont really get it, I just accepted it.

I also had no idea it didn't just take one time of having unprotected sex to produce a child and that there was only a small window of time that you could.

@tejbee: Some couples are very fortunate enough to get a sticky BFP right away. I honestly went into TTC thinking it would be easy. I've learned otherwise since. I only found out recently that it took my brother and SIL some time to conceive their kids. I was under the impression that they were first tries.

I know one couple where both of their kids (expecting second right now) were first tries. They're considered extremely rare in TTC in general. If anything, in the past four months, I've learned which techniques work better for us and which don't. This was our first cycle lubricant free. I also didn't take Mucinex since I didn't think it was doing anything for my CM. It's a learning process and some of us conceive faster than others. You can be in tip top shape and still take months to conceive.

How you can try everything, and still not get pregnant. How infertility treatments don't guarantee a pregnancy (I knew that, but didn't realize it would take so long with them, maybe a cycle or two). How emotional it can be.

I also didn't think it would take so long. I didn't realize all the preparing you do like taking BBT daily and charting all the work involved. I remember always hearing people say they got pregnant and it was a total surprise, that it was completely unplanned. I thought because of hearing such things, it would be super easy.

40 weeks is still 9 months though, not ten months. Some months have more than 4 weeks.

Honestly, until I started reading baby boards I had no idea just how many women suffer miscarriages. It is heartbreaking.

I had no idea it would be so fast to get pregnant after finding out you can only conceive a couple days each month. We were going to start tracking everything in July with an ovulation predictor kit and just based on taking my temperature when I remembered each morning randomly tried in June and got pregnant. It was a bit of a shock, albeit a good one. I also couldn't believe how different my pregnancy could be from y mother's. It took her forever to get pregnant and then had the easiest pregnancies. I got pregnant practically from my husband looking at me and it had been a long, arduous 6.5 months so far. Horrendous morning sickness for 4 months almost to the point of hospitalization, failing thyroid tests, glucose tests, etc. I feel like being pregnant is a marathon!

@plantains: I agree, I had no idea that so many women have had miscarriages. It's so sad that people feel they can't be more open about it in real life - all these women must feel so alone, when really they aren't alone at all.
