I just took off DD's pants and saw this mark. It's not marker, she was wearing black pants so it's not a transfer of dye, and there were no incident reports from school (and they are EXTRA cautious and tell me about everything). It doesn't turn white when you touch it and it's not raised/dry.

My LO had something similar on his belly a few months ago and we could not figure out where it came from either. Very similar where he came home from school with it, but day care didn't see anything happen (and they are also very cautious). After a day or so, it sorta took on more of a rug burn feel to it and then bruised over but never appeared to hurt him. We just guessed at that point he had somehow gotten a rug burn without noticing it. He's 2, so he would have been able to tell us where it came from if he was aware.
